Advantages: Good Coffee : )
Disadvantages: computers in the smoking area : (
Is Costa Coffee , the pret 'a' manger of the North . Most of the large Scottish cities in my experience have a Costa Coffee , some have two , at the train station and in the city centre . Costa is my no means cheap , the regulars are professionals are a mix between rich students . The opportunists like me are those who enjoy Costa as a treat but couldn't slurp and snack there everyday , even though I'd probably like too. The staff always seem friendly and eager to help with problems , and they will always give you a jug extra milk if you need it . Seating , varies from window stools to round tables and chairs , to comfy sofa tables which generally give a bit more space and better with the buggy in tow. The loo's don't have baby changing facilities to my knowledge, but they have highchairs . Costa is also is an internet cafe , my local has about 10 computers and I think usage comes with a small charge . They also hire chess and draughts , the deposit is a 20 pound note. The coffee house's are divided into smoking and non- smoking sections . The computers are in the smoking section which as a non-smoker I fine a bit irritating . ... Well whats on the menu .... Beverages : ------------ Costa serves an extensive of beverages including a whole range of different coffee's from around the world . Every day a different coffee is on special offer. They do the usual latte , expresso 's etc but they also have really bizarre cominations like white chocolate flavoued coffee and iced coffee with cream. Servings include small + medium cups and large mugs. They even do French Bowls for those in real need of a caffine buzz. Optional extras include , cream , marsmallows and flakes - at a price . They do the usual teas , herb teas , fizzy drinks, milk , water , so ideal for taking your Granny out for tea , and there is plenty on offer for the nippers (
they have lots of highchairs too ). Their milkshakes are so scrumpy , perfect for summer days. They also do fruit smoothies in 3 differnt flavours , they sound yummy , but at a sickening price of 2.40 I've yet to try one ( I'll have to raid my piggy bank for that one!!! ). Food ----- Costa does the usual sandwiches and baguettes with generous fillings mmm yum ( I'm hungry just thinking about them ) .Costa also will toast the sandwiches for you , but you'll have a 10 minute wait if you order one . Sandwiches cost about 3 pounds - so be warned . For those more health orientated individuals there is a delicious hot soup served , their is one flavour avaliable each day from tomato to silton and brocolli which is served which 2 huge hunks of bread (and butter for those who aren't so into healthy eating , opps thats me!!! ) . It's quite reasonably priced at 2 pounds 50. .... and now the best bit ..dessert..... Cakes and Desserts -------------------- Costa serves crossiants to cheesecakes . Cakes and pastries range from about 1 pound to 3 pounds for the best Chocolate cake ( and yes it's worth it , it's so yummy and big enough for two to share ... if you want to! ) The cheesecakes are really good , especially the strawberry one . In the cake display cabinet you find the usual tray bakes , muffins . They even do cornflake cake squares , ideal for the kids and my favourite with a latte. Costa also does crisps and Italian biscuit snacks , the all ones I've tried are similar to kit Kat's . ...... Costa it's really worth the visit , they even play an Learn Italian tape with a few words on it every now and then , for those keen to improve their linguistic abilities ( ah so now you know why students go there , it's for revision purposes , not to chat and miss lectures !!!). They also do take outs so if your in a hurry but need watering it'd
ideal !

- 15/04/01 Excellent op. We went to the Costa at Strensham services, it didn't have all the facilities you mention there, but obviously has a different target audience, I must admit though, the coffee was good and the pastries looked scrummy. |

- 01/03/01 Congs on your Crown and great op even though I don't like coffee. |

- 09/02/01 Great Places as you say, shame about the prices. However, The Glasgow Herald occasionally has vouchers ....
Actually, I prefer the coffee houses in Amsterdam, but i think you can guess why - but don't tell Heather - I'm going back there in May (on business, honest !!!) |
