Advantages: An unforgettable experience

Disadvantages: Expensive

The Crazy Bear is located in Beaconsfield 'Old Town' (I live in Beaconsfield so this place is almost on my doorstep). It has recently opened following substantial renovation of the oldest building in the town, which for a long time, used to be the George Hotel. The place has been magnificently restored, and because they have built down as well as refurbishing the existing areas, it took over four years to complete, the result of which is a piece of dramatic architecture, with spectacular lighting and amazing and luxurious decor. The renovation work included an underground extension which is in itself quite elaborate and luxurious, adding extra character to this imposing property.

A white marble staircase with an elaborate ironwork banister leads to the private bar below ground which has mirrored walls and fibre optic lighting effects. The floor in the Crystal room is black and is furnished with white embossed leather seating.

The floor in the bar area is Italian jade marble with a gloss polished walnut & copper bar and includes a row of six 1930s crystal chandeliers to add to the luxury. Along one wall there is a custom-made, black chesterfield stretching for several metres, which is studded with Swarovski crystals. Heavy crushed velvet curtains drape from antique hand carved oak paneling to complete the extreme decor.

There are 10 individually designed bedrooms and each uses materials to dramatic effect. These include, textured leather, suede, oak, porcelain, velvet and gold leaf. The room furniture and ornamentation is quite theatrical.

There are two restaurants, (and private dining is available in The Library and The Hunting Lodge). An English restaurant providing fine dining and a separate Thai restaurant (private dining is available in The Thai Snug). The English restaurant features a huge open fire, crystal studded chesterfield seating, textured leather and 24 carat gold leaf walls and polished antique oak flooring. The Thai restaurant has embossed velvet walls, four huge crystal chandeliers hanging from vaulted ceiling, leather tables and banquette seating.

I'm not sure what I should tell you about the food other than try it for yourself and make your own decision. As for me, the whole experience was marvelous and the Thai food was exceptional but the real value of this place is the place itself.

Summary: A place for a very special occasion

But you don't tell us ANYTHING about the food. What style of food? What price range? You can't review a restaurant without mentioning the food.
