Cullins Yard (Dover)
Advantages: relaxing atmosphere, tasty food, live music
Disadvantages: service can be a bit slow when its busy
Cullins Yard is situated on Dover Marina, opposite the Western Docks and about a 5 minute walk from the main town of Dover. I have eaten at Cullins Yard on several occasions and have found it to be very pleasant.
Inside Cullins Yard there is a large restaurant which overlooks Dover Marina and makes for a very relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated with pictures and items which are relevant to the town of Dover and the Dover Marina. In the centre of the restaurant is a large bar which serves a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks.
As well as the restaurant, there is also a fully heated conservatory which can be hired out for private events such as birthday parties and weddings. When this room is not hired out, guests can enjoy their meal out here which is especially nice in the summer.
There is also a fairly large garden which is set across decking which again overlooks Dover Marina. There are tables and chairs here to enable guests to enjoy their food in the fresh air if they wish to do so. The garden area is also fully heated with outdoor heaters above every table.
There are two menus to chose from when visiting Cullins Yard. These are the Light Lunch menu and the Main Menu so there is something to suit everyones taste and appetite. As well as these two menus, there is also a specials board which offers locally caught dishes such as Dover Sole.
I have always found the food to be very tasty and the portions are a decent size and certainly leave you feeling like you have eaten without feeling you have eaten too much.
The prices are reasonable, you will look to pay around £4.50 for a snack such as a Panini and main meals are obviously more expensive at around £12 which I feel is still a reasonable amount to pay.
Although the staff are very polite and friendly, on the occasions that I have been, the service has been a little bit slow but then Cullins Yard always seems to be busy so this is probably why. On one occasions, our main meals took 35 minutes to arrive which I felt was a little excessive. Another downside is that over a weekend, when the restaurant is busy, you may find that some of the more popular dishes are sold out which can be a bit of a pain! But I guess it goes to show that Cullins Yard is fairly popular!
I would recommend a visit to Cullins Yard. The food is well priced and very tasty and the atmosphere is unique and welcoming. The only downside is that service can be a bit on the slow side but personally I feel that the food makes up for this. I like the fact that you can chose to sit inside or outside and the setting, on Dover Marina is very relaxing.
