Advantages: Excellent food and service, Reasonably price., Great place to start a good night out

Disadvantages: Very addictive, curries may never be the same., OK being really picky, soggy nan bread., I've had to praise the service!!!

Birmingham is the birth place of the Balti. The balti triangle is famous and with a rich variety of curry houses a lot of competition exists ensuring a high standard of dishes.

Selly Oak is the city's student area, bring close to the main university campus, so alot of students are around, particularly during term time with pubs and bars nearby also. Parking is available nearby and there are supermarket carparks which you could you use if really desperate. The restaurant is very easy to find being on the main Bristol Road that passes through the city. It is also very convenient to get to being only a few minutes walk from Selly Oak rail station. I have now been to this restaurant several times. It is small, dark but adds to the atmosphere of intrigue and the seating layout though not great is perfectly reasonable. The waiters are friendly and a relaxed feeling is present. For those with a dislike for students then sorry, being a student myself, you'll have to put up with people like me. Although to be perfectly honest it never gets rowdy. Well not early on a Saturday evening anyway.

The restaurant can be rather busy, so it is best to get there early. If you're really hungry you may try your luck else where along the main road.

The starters again have the usual kebabs and bahjis. Prices are reasonable from a couple of pounds. Popadums are big and the usual shape. Dips for the popadums are OK, but I do miss the yoghurt sauce. I have tried various curries now and on course to complete the whole menu, but all I can say they have unique tastes that words cannot describe. The flavours are sensational, with everything cooked to a high standard. The tikka masala which I had last time come with a very high recommendation. The portions are not huge but just right, well there is always space for more, when food is this good. Prices start from 5 pounds. There are Nan and rice which are reasonably priced and come in
generous portions. The nan bread may be a bit soggy for my liking but doesn't affect the taste at all.
The main course can take along time to arrive, depending on how busy they get but its worth the wait.

There is a good wine list and beers on offer. I haven't tried these so can't comment on it. If anyone try them then please let me know your recommendation. This goes for dessert, I've never managed to squeeze one in yet. The place is also friendly for eating alone, but much better with friends. The waiters are friendly and never service is good, with them providing just the right amount of attention.

OK admittedly this isn't the best curry I've had in Birmingham, the honour goes elsewhere, but the service at this place is so much better that I am prepared to sacrifice a slight decrease in quality but then unless you are really fussy then this is more than adequate. I was recommended this curry house by friends, and I can see why. For those of you looking for a good night out, this is the perfect starting block to meet friends and line your stomachs with delicious grubs before hitting the town, either Selly Oak or the centre with transport conveniently nearby. In fact leave your car at home and get to this place for a good night out.

A word of warning. Be afraid, be very afraid. Curries may never taste the same again!

Very good veggie selection. Haven't tried any yet though. Same with Chutneys also, but meagre portions. If you pass through let me know, we could dine together.

Never know may be passing that way one day, as long as there is plenty of veggie food - Kay
