Not being far from Bridlington, the other day my mate suggested we took the dogs for a stroll along the beach. Her 4 mutts loved it but it wasn't half cold for us and so when done she suggested we go have a quick bite to eat and a hot drink! I was so pleased when I saw this place in front of the harbor and took a look at the chalk boards in the windows and saw they did a lot of foods to choose from along with drinks so we decided to go in. The Place: Dolphin Restaurant 8 Harbor Rd Bridlington East Riding of Yorkshire England YO15 2NR Tel: 0871 8116326 Once inside this restaurant I was surprised at sort of how quaint it was. Very basic, wide aisles and simple in taste it was sort of old fashioned but not in a run down way at all. Sauces and condiments were set on the table and it was table service. The staff were clean and very friendly and the whole place looked clean and I noticed that tables were being cleaned down very quickly and that service was swift and smooth. The menu was very comprehensive indeed. Lots of fish dishes were on the menu, pies, steak meals and light bites and of course desserts/puddings and children's meals. I opted for large fish and chips and a side order of mushy peas and my mate went for salmon and vegetables and new potatoes. After not a very long wait out it all came and wow! Ok I had gone for large fish and chips and could of gone for the ordinary size which cost about £5.00. My large was about £6.50 and a side order of mushy peas was 75p but me and my mate were incredibly shocked. When I describe the fish as large I seriously mean it! It was enormous in lovely golden puffed up battered and very obviously cooked fresh with loads of chips with it. Everything about my meal was delicious and of course being in Yorkshire everything is cooked in dripping which doesn't make it healthy but marvelous! I was also impressed that my mushy peas came out in a dish that was full of them so I felt I really did get what I paid for and I even got bread and butter that was lovely and fresh as anything too. My mates salmon was incredibly tender and everything was in order there and my mate was delighted with that for about £6.00! Desserts were anything from apple pie and cream to Knickerbocker glories and although we had no room for anything after our main course other people did and again people were not waiting long for them to be served, were of generous size and about £3.00 each for most options. Although the place is not licensed soft drinks and tea and coffees etc are served and once you have finished your meal you go to a till point and pay up. Very simple, very nice and the food was completely worth every penny, a fact I didn't hesitate to tell out waitress on the way out either! Toilets are very clean and spacious though I didn't see a children's changing area or a disabled loo but saying that this place is situated on a hill! Lovely views from the restaurant, it is like a café with good food and by calling it a restaurant it sounds posher than what it is really. I mean this isn't where I would want to go to for a special occasion however the food here really is totally scrummy and me, I've told everyone who will listen to got here if possible, their fish is simply to die for and I have never before tasted anything that good! Wonderful Bridlington is and this is the jewel in the crown!
