If you hanker after food "just like Mum used to cook" this is the place for you.
A good old fashioned menu, all home made on the premises at a very modest price.
We had been recommended to the Edelweiss by a friend and I took my Mother and Wife for a birthday lunch.
We all had the 3 course set Menu 2 @ £11.50 and 1 £9.50 (for those with small appettites - how useful for children or the less greedy).
To start, beautiful rich vegetable soup that you could stand a spoon up in accompanied with granary bread followed by Roast Turkey, Roast Beef, ( with all the trimmings) & home made Steak & Kidney pie all accompanied by savoy cabbage, peas, carrots, new and roast potatoes.
Then Treacle pudding that nearly floated off the plate it was so light.
The Restaurant is spotless and the service was immpeccable, even a request for more gravy half way through our meal didn't faze them.
Nothing was too much trouble.
Limited free car parking outside but also a pay and display across the road for busier times.
This Restaurant deserves to be successful, a real throw back to the times when eating out was a pleasure and affordable.
Now if they could only open a branch near where we live, I would be there every week!!
Would definitely recommend this Restaurant - Had a day trip to Cheddar and town was still heaving from the post bank holiday visitors. Thought we would have to settle for fish and chips as everywhere was so busy then we came across the Edelweiss at the bottom of the town. Don't be deceived by the small amount of seating on view from the front, there are lots of nooks and crannies inside where you can sit. Very friendly staff and the food is excellent - we settled for the three course set menu for £10.50 - Home made steak and kidney pie and faggots which were fantastic, followed by Apple and Strawberry crumble!!! Don't be put off by the unusual combination of fruit, it is scrummy. Will definitely be going back - were told they are open until mid December, reopening around February - but does close around 3.00 p.m in winter months though
This is an absolutely fabulous restaurant that I stumbled on when on my travels to Cheddar Gorge. They are open 7 days a week all day between March and November. During the peak seasons they can stay open up to 8-45! Which is impressive for the Gorge! I really don't know where to start as the restaurant was so fantastic. It is waitress service, and very quick! The restaurant it's self is situated on the side of a beautiful river. There are loads of flowers outside and in, making it look picture perfect! In the summer months there are tables outside and I really enjoyed sitting out there with my cream tea looking up at the Gorge! The inside is decorated really nicely and it feels really homely and comftable. Infact I was told that a lot of the food is home made which shone through and made the meal twice as nice as you could tell that it hadn't just been taken out of the freezer and heated up! The menu caters for both adults and children, snacks and meals. On the saturday morning I arrived I had a breakfast, 2 hours later I was back for a cream tea! Saturday night I went and enjoyed a steak! I have never been so full in my life! The food is of a high quality and excellent value for money. For example you can get a VERY filling three course meal for 6-95! I really do recommend it to any one in Cheddar!
