We are only slightly amused – mod satis, but only just. The Saturday night feeding frenzy in Covent Garden is at its worst during the tourist season. Not only is everything full from about 7 pm, but there is such desperation that one is pleased just to get sat down. Just off Charing Cross Road, not really in Covent Garden, but more Covent Garden Borders, is the Empress of India. London is full of non-descript Indian Restaurants, catering to the national addiction to curry and all things tandoori.
