Advantages: Convienient, good food.

Disadvantages: Don't seem many around

Yeah it’s another one of those sweet American diner joints! A quick glance at the inviting outside menu revealed a fair variation of typical meals for typical prices.

Why is it in the U.K there is no one that truly undercuts to a great degree on price? Where this does occur you can bet you’re probably talking pennies in Britain.

Inside was clean and the décor not ‘over the top’ (hardly authentic American then?). A large American flag on the wall though and red and white-beamed banisters partitioning the establishment quite nicely.

I don’t recall seeing many Fatty’s (as they are known) around; they are certainly not as common as your mainstream restaurant chains.

There seemed quite a lag in time between getting the very clear well formatted menu and actually having the option to order.
During the order though, detail was electronically taken and immediate processing probably occurred through to a monitor in the kitchen, since the waitress had an electronic transmitter device on which she was doodling.

After about five minutes the food arrived! This seemed too good to be true considering the long wait just to ‘get the order in’, in the first place.

What on earth was the waitress wearing? An old light blue school shirt with baggy trousers! No awards for the uniforms here chaps. No American ‘extrovert’ behaviour either, not even a good day, great potential though.

I must admit to expecting a regular size drink to being somewhat larger than an eggcup! - Ok I’m exaggerating perhaps a little, but don’t Americans like large sizes?
As for the food though, it seemed authentic and really could not be faulted.

Original early 80’s pop music was the theme; somehow this didn’t fit in with the ‘state of the art’ décor though, which included the prominent waiter only bar.

Special offers include Kids
being able to eat free at weekends from midday to 4pm. I’m not sure if this applies to all Fatty Arbuckle’s though.

Dessert menu arrives separately and offers your apple pies, pancakes (no limit to the amount over 5 tier) and ice cream concoctions. Pretty good really.

Yeah I was happy overall, I got a smile.

I'll give them a go next time I bump into one. I didn't realise there were so many American chains. Help!

Well written and straight to the point. There's one near me, so I might give it a try. Have you tried Franky and Bennys? They're a great American restaurant (decent portions too). Cheers.
