Good food, very welcoming, generous quantities. However, it appears that 10% service charge is added in all cases.Personally I dislike this. It was also not shown on the bill, and I was close to tipping on top of the price.I was glad I queried the price. I fear many would not, and then would tip on top of the service charge.
Best chinese in the area. LOOK NO FURTHER.
The Flower Drum is one of my favourite Watford restaurants, offering a variety of Cantonese and Schezuan (is that how you spell it?) food. This is the place I take my girlfriend, my friends or my family, if I want to buy them a really nice chinese meal. It's certainly not the cheapest chinese, but by no means is it over-priced. An average four course meal, with drink, for two will cost between £40 and £60, depending on how much food you have in each course. The food menu is very extensive, with chicken, seafood, shellfish, beef, pork, duck, vegetable and vegetarian having more than enough choice to keep everyone happy. Their vegetarian selection is particularly good. They were the first restaurant I went to who had an alternative to Crispy Duck and Pancakes as an intermediary course. Vegetable Moo She comprises of several hot vegetables mixed with beansprouts which can be wrapped into the pancakes. Vegetarians no longer have to sit and wait for the following course to appear before they can eat again. The quality of the food is superb, and the portions are very generous. Between two you can get away with 2 starters, 1 intermediate, 3 or 4 main courses plus rice or noodles, a bottle of wine, coffee and dessert. The service is really very good. All of the staff are incredibly friendly, and they never rush you, either for your order, between courses, or to leave once you've finished eating. You usually get a good ten minutes between each course, which is always a welcome breather for me. The wine waiter is a little over-enthusiastic, he will replace every mouthful you drink given the chance, so a friendly "no thanks" helps to keep him at bay for a longer period. The wine list is also very extensive offering reds and whites from around the worlds and suiting different tastes. They are fully licensed so those who prefer beers and spirits also get a choice, though it
is rather limited. They have just started doing a take away service. Unfortunately they don't deliver, but hey, I have legs! If you're visiting Watford and want to go somewhere good to eat then you won't go far wrong with The Flower Drum. As long as you like Chinese food that is.
