Advantages: Good food, large portions, great service
Disadvantages: Quite expensive, long waiting time, noisy
After a surprise payment last week, I decided to use some of the extra money to give the younger sister a bit of a treat and whisked her off for a meal out at Frankie & Bennie's.
Frankie & Bennie's is an American-Italian chain. That means if, like the younger sister, you enjoy pizza and pasta there's plenty for you, but there's also a good selection for folk like me who prefer big chunks of meat.
Seating took a while - though admittedly we were there at peak time on a Saturday evening. They gave us a pager, with a promise to page when we had a table, and we waited at the bar. The younger sister doesn't drink, and I was driving, but we did find they had a nice selection of virgin cocktails - I had a nice refreshing lime cocktail for around £2.50.
Do not expect it to be cheap just because its a chain however. Two meals, without drinks but with one shared garlic bread, empied my purse to a tune of £25. They do, I believe, have discounts for kid's meals but I would still expect to pay rather a lot if I took a full family there. There do seem to be quite a lot of pre-teen birthday parties there though - must be rich parents!
Service was excellently quick - garlic bread was with us within ten minutes of ordering, although we waited longer for the main course. Waiter was friendly, and checked on us to make sure we didn't need more drinks several times. Food was delicious - I had chips, chicken, ribs and a corn on the cob. Left with a very full belly, and no room to order desert!
One last warning - do expect it to be quite noisy, especially in the bar area. Quiet conversation is simply not a possibility here!
Summary: Will return, but only on treat days!
