Advantages: Great service, nice food, lovely atmosphere and great prices if you look on the Lunch menu.

Disadvantages: No noticeable flaws with the Newcastle branch in my opinion.

This review is for the Frankie & Benny's Newcastle branch next to Northumberland Road. Upon beginning university in September, me and my friends thought we'd give it a try, and were introduced to a whole new casual yet professional dining experience.

Frankie & Benny's is a New York Italian Restaurant & Bar (as the picture shows), but I think the most enjoyable aspect of eating here is the atmosphere and relaxed nature of it all. I'm not the only one to say this as well, I've heard many people compliment the restaurant for it's warmth and hospitality. It's laid out in a mixture of nice wooden furniture as well as old fashioned New York booths which are my personal favourites. The lighting is a significant factor in the cosy atmosphere with almost a subtle sunset vibrance filling the restaurant.

The food itself is very nice, and generally to a high standard. The kitchen is visible so you're able to see the chefs at work which is always a confidence booster as you're guaranteed hygiene. The food is pricey, unless you order from the Lunch menu between 11am and 5pm, in which case you have the choice from selected meals such as Spaghetti Bolognase and Chicken Penna Romana among others. The bonus with the Lunch menu though is that the value for money is excellent as the prices are lowered. For example, 1 course is £5.25, 2 courses being £7.25 and 3 courses are £9.45. Ranging from starters like Soup Of The Day, to main courses, and then to desserts such as Cinamon Waffle Crunch and Chocolate Fudge Brownies etc. On the standard menu however, a main course is likely to cost in excess of £7 so for anyone thinking of checking it out, I'd strongly recommend the Lunch menu.

The service is of an excellent standard, the staff are incredibly friendly and are willing to help you - often coming back to the table in order to refill your glasses providing you've ordered the "bottomless" soft drinks. Even during a busy time, food is likely to reach your table within about 10-15 minutes maximum which is very good, you can just spend the time in between preparing your stomach for the next meal as well as chatting in the relaxed atmosphere.

Overall, Frankie & Benny's is a great experience which provides very nice food also. The service will keep a smile on your face during your time at the restaurant and it's a bit unfortunate that it has only averaged a 3-star rating on here, I can only assume that experiences at the several branches differs. I've only ever visited Newcastle's and Middlebrough's branch, both offer a great experience, possibly Newcastle more so but either way - Frankie & Benny's is well worth the trip.

Summary: Not only an enjoyable meal, but also a pleasing experience.

It certainly beats TGIF but it's still not somewhere I'd choose to eat if there were any other option available.
