On a recent visit to Eyemouth, we were lucky to stay on a really hot day and after wandering around the harbour, and beach, it was time to cool down with an ice cream.
Situated on the harbour opposite the maritime museum, this was an ideal place for a sit down and a bit of people watching. Outside the café were two low tables and chairs and a high table and chairs, so it was a great place for basking in the sunshine.
From the outside the restaurant/café looks quite small but apparently inside there is seating for 50 people. I also assumed that it was an ice cream parlour but a glance at the menu showed that it does sell fish and chips, as well as pasta dishes, as well as a wide selection of, home made soup, toasted sandwiches and salads. For the purposes of this review, however, I am commenting only on the café side of things.
There is an on site factory where the ice cream is made. The ice cream making aspect has been established for 100 years and sells award winning ice cream, as advertised on the café frontage. It also sells a selection of very Italian looking ice cream cakes and some were displayed in the glassed fridges inside the shop- they did indeed loom delicious. However, we were only three so a cake would have been a tad excessive so we opted for the ice creams.
There is a range of flavours including rum and raisin, Very Berry, Chocolate, Snickers, Blue Moon and the usual Vanilla and strawberry. Apparently they are constantly working on new flavours and flavours are seasonal including Christmas pudding ice cream at Christmas. Little Miss had a mint and chocolate ice cream in a nice thick cone and although I found it too sweet she pronounced it to be delicious, whilst himself had the rum and raisin and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the nice touches was the round wafer in the top of the ice cream with the name of the restaurant written on the wafer. I am not especially fond of ice cream but can state that the coffee is very fresh and Italian tasting.
The prices are reasonable and for two large ice creams and a coffee we still had change from a fiver.

The café is ideally situated for summer time pavement drinking, and it was lovely just sitting watching the world go by. The ice cream was really fresh tasting and the staff are friendly and helpful and don't seem to be in any rush to hurry up the customers- it seemed we were welcome to sit for as long as we wanted. It did do a very steady trade in people buying and eating ice creams and apparently will also do pre ordered cakes for special occasions.
Well worth a visit if you are in this neck of the woods.
