Advantages: Great veggie options
Disadvantages: None
Gourmet Burger Kitchen is one of my favourite eateries in London for a meal with friends or a lazy weekday meal.
There are branches in St Pauls, Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Lakeside (I think) and various other London locations. (And Dublin as I discovered at the weekend has two!).
The menu is fairly self explanatory - its burgers burgers and more burgers. Childrens options include chicken pieces and there is a small salad menu, but you come here for the burgers and nothing else! Drinks include milkshakes and smoothies as well as the basics.
GBK is posh fast food - you probably don't ever need to book and they also do takeaway. Usually you are seated and go to the bar to order. Waitress service brings you food and drink but you get up again to pay. In Dublin I noticed it is full waited service. You are usually in and out within the hour, though longer in the evenings. They do lunch and dinner everyday.
I am a veggie and I find the menu quite good, vegetarian options include a goats cheese and aubergine burger (my fave), a portobello mushroom and stacked roasted veg on a burger, a camembert one, and potato and lentil burger. All the veggie burgres have lovely ingredients like chilli jam, sunblush tomatoes, roasted red onion and the like. The pesto may on the portobella burger is a highlight! The burgers are so huge they come with a stick in them to hold them up.
The way to order is to get chips and some of the fab dips to go with your burger, though I'm fairly sure there is a coleslaw you can have instead (why!!!! get the chips!). The best dips (though they're all fab) are the garlic mayo (you will not be kissing anyone for weeks afterwards!) and the spicy smoked chilli mayo. They are all homemade - nothing out of a jar here.
You can get dinner for two at GBK for about £30 with drinks and olives etc. Really good value and a really good experience.
P.S The one in Dublin has a unisex loo - be warned!
Summary: Great restaurant for a veggie treat
