Advantages: tasty

Disadvantages: not the best decor

Last night I went out with some friends for dinner at Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) in Cardiff Bay. I have been to a GBK many years ago but not since and I had never been to this particular restaurant.

The restuarant is in a good location, amoung other bars and restaurants in Mermaid's Quay. This is a popular area to dine and so it seems to do pretty good businesses. Being a Monday night, Mermaid's Quay was pretty quiet but GBK had quite a few diners when we arrived.

We had a table booked for 10 and they couldn't find our booking which could have put a downer on things but there was enough space so they made us up a table. The staff waitied patiently for everyone to arrive before taking drinks orders which was good. When we did order there was plenty of choice. GBK sells burgers (hence the name!) but there is a huge variety and you can have a chicken burger or a vegetarian option all served in a burger bun. I chose the bacon and avocado burger and it was huge and very tasty!

Burgers are on average about £7 and you have to order chips separately if you want them. We had vouchers which meant we got 2 burgers and chips to share for £10. This is a really good deal. The greedy pig in me thought that I would want more than 1 portion of chips between two but I was wrong and could barely eat my share as the burgers are so filling.

These deals are quite common so you can usually pick up a voucher meal deal. You can get them by signing up to the website. This generally means that eating at GBK is a nice cheap option.

It isn't fine dining but it isn't fast food either. The burgers are top quality and you can chose how you would like it to be cooked (e.g. rare or well done). The restuaurants are clean and simple and staff are helpful. The tables in this one could have done with being replaced as they were old and sratched but other than that it was fine. It worked out as a meal for £5 and that is very very good value and something that I would definitely do again.
