Advantages: Some good tasting products.

Disadvantages: The poor service and the image of the place.

Greggs bakers does a good range of bakery products and I know many people love this place but I have some real problems with the place even if I do love some of their products.

My main problem with Greggs is the image the place tries to give itself as opposed to how I actually see it.

Greggs tries to manifest itself as a family high street bakers offering top quality pastries and cakes as well as offering healthy filled rolls and sandwiches.

Well I am not having that at all, Greggs is a hangout for the unemployed and the obese well at least the two on my high street are.

At any given point if you go into one of the two Greggs on my high street it will be full of single mothers with buggies and the cracks of their asses showing over the tops of their jeans and people so out their heads it is a wonder they have any of their giro money left to buy a pie or a cake.

There is always plenty Burberry head wear and chav clothing on offer in the place too and almost everyone in the place waiting to be served will know each other because this is their meeting place before moving on to the seats provided throughout the shopping centre where they sit and watch the real world pass them by.

Ok none of this is directly Greggs fault but there are other problems with the place that they could do something about such as the fact that if you do not like certain things that go on their sandwiches it is tough because they are pre-made and unless you get a very nice member of staff you have no chance of them making one especially for you.

There is also the fact that if you go in for a sausage roll or a pie or something after about midday it will either be served to you cold or heated in the microwave till it is over 1 million degrees and so soggy you can barely tell what it is.

If you want the best from Greggs you need to go early morning and get the freshest goods at decent temperatures and without having to fight your way through the great unwashed as they are all still in bed or out trying to score or find an old age pensioner to rob to pay for their sausage rolls and fudge doughnuts.

With all that off my chest I still have to admit that when fresh and warm, Greggs do the best sausage rolls in the land and some of their other stuff is quite good too, if only they would put a bit of effort into their customer service and stop being a magnet to chavs with kids named Demi and Jojo they could perhaps be the up-market high street bakers they so long to be!

Summary: A decent bakers, no more, no less.

I am actually rather partial to the occasional pasty from Greggs and I don't find any of the problems that you mention with any of my local branches. This might however be due to the fact that Greggs have bought many small chains of local bakers and where I live these have still retained some of their original identity although they now trade under the Greggs banner.
