Greggs in general
Advantages: Great staff, lots of lovely products on offer, some nice cheaper cakes.
Disadvantages: A little pricey for some of the sandwiches & loaves of bread.
Greggs is a chain of bakeries which specialise in making pastries, bread, sandwiches, cakes & buns. There are many of them all over the country and we have two or three here in Harlow which just goes to show how popular they must be.
Everytime I visit Greggs, no matter what store or what time there is a queue of at least 4 or 5 people and I popped downstairs to Greggs today to buy a nice sliced loaf of Tiger Bread and I was met with a queue of 6 people browsing of the items on offer and taking forever to make their decisions once they had got to the front of the queue. There is two or three tills and serving staff on the go at all times of day and although the queues can get big there is normally just a few minutes wait required before I can purchase my delicious baked goods.
They sell a wide range of sandwiches, baguettes & rolls and these are available from 99p (white bread egg mayonnaise sandwich) right up to around £3.00 for some of their larger more expensively filled baguettes. I find the sandwiches to be fairly good value when compared to rival stores and they are always of nice quality.
The pasties are a particular favourite of mine but I try and avoid them because they are so high in fat & calories (although I'm not exactly sure how many!). They have lots of different fillings such as steak & chicken and I always find these to be deliciously flaky and well filled. I was so tempted when I saw them in the store today!
They have many different cakes on offer such as iced buns, cookies, doughnuts, fruit scones, cupcakes etc and they always have seasonal ones such as Summer Fruit Muffins or Valentines Day Cupcakes etc and there are quite a few offers on them such as 4 iced ring doughnuts for £1.70. Some of these are a little overpriced but they are, for the most part, absolutely delicious and very well made.
There are lots of varieties of fresh bread on offer including farmhouse, french stick, bloomer etc and my favourite is by far the Tiger bread. Greggs will happily slice your loaf for you, medium or thick, and I would recommend the thick slicing as the medium is quite tiny really and I like fairly nice hunks of bread when it's Tiger bread.
I find the staff to be polite & helpful without being overly friendly and as I mentioned before I am always promptly served considering the queues that they have. I have never had a rude staff member serve me and have never had any issues of prices or change.
Most Greggs stores are fairly small and most of the space is taken up by the cake displays & the sandwich displays. Most stores also sell bottle drinks & packet of crisps also and occasionally they have meal deals such as a sandwich, crisps & a drink for £2.50, these are good deals and I always try and look out for them.
Overall I am a huge fan of Greggs, I would visit more often but I don't need to eat more cakes or pasties and put weight on! I am rating the store 5/5 as I just have nothing bad to say about it (apart from the fact that the cakes and pasties aren't free!).
Summary: A fantastic bakery store with lots of delicious products on offer.
