Advantages: quite tasty and relatively cheap food

Disadvantages: not completely authentic bakery food

Greggs is the largest bakery style retailer in the Uk with over 1400 stores nationwide. One of the great things about Greggs is the prices of the goods they sell which has helped the company to be successful. The quality of ingredients and composition of goods is maybe not as great as some traditional bakeries but the food is generally tasty and also good for your wallet . This means it appeals to alot of people especially for food on the go.

Greggs was founded all the way back in 1939 by by John Gregg in Newcastle Upon Tyne and now has expanded greatly having various different regional divisions. The company has a divisional structure which means it has central bakeries around the country supplying the shops in their surrounding areas. Most of Greggs business is in shop made sandwiches and freshly baked savouries such as pies, pasties and sausage rolls. These lines are sold alongside a range of sweet products and a wide range of bread and rolls.

Greggs is a bakery that is around in virtually all towns and cities nowadays. It is unlikely that many people have not at least come across one. I have visited quite a few and the product ranges tend to be quite similar in most. The food is great to have on the go and the place can be especially busy around lunchtimes with queues. One of my favourites from Greggs is their French Bread pizzas. I also have bought their pasties on numerous occasions but there is a big difference when you taste one of these pasties and a pasty from a more tradional bakery. They are filled with less and the pastry is also not as thick and puffy but for the price the food is very good. If you want better I guess you will just have to pay more somewhere else! They also have some great sweet products such as chocolate eclairs, cream slices and doughnuts. The products may not be completely good for your health but are of a decent qualiy for the price. I have heard the prices have gone up slightly but Greggs still remains very competitive and continue to be a big force in the bakery market.

Summary: decent bakery food on the go

I always thought Greggs was a comparatively new company. Didn't realise they went back as far as 1939!
Good review.

Loads of background info on a bakery shop I go to but haven't thought too much about in the past. Great review!
