Our high street now has 2 Greggs on it. 1 at either end and the street isn't that long. Is their really any need?
I used to really like Greggs. It was the best Bakers in my eyes, a quick snack, but then when Subway and Baguette Express came along, it finally made me realise that I have always more been into Sandwiches and that instead of Pies and general Bakery goods. Greggs seem to offer good enough food for a not bad price. The last time I was in was last week, and the prices seem to have shot up a bit, whereas other eating places seem to have stayed much the same.
Any Greggs i've been to around my bit has 2 counters, but not sure if everyone has that. There is the Roll counter and then the Pies/Pastry goods/ Cakes counter. You can stand at either counter to get what you want, but I suggest if you are getting a filled Roll it is best to go to the Roll counter and then they can go and get your other things from the other counter.
No sitting in in any Greggs i've been in, but again that could just be the branches i've been to. They have been small, narrow shops.
What can you buy here? Well the Crisps, Juice and Sweets seem pretty overpriced, but as always I have bought them out of convenience.
The Filled Rolls are lovely. There isn't a huge amount of choice of fillings, but I like what they have. It seems to be Chicken, Ham, Tuna Mayonaisse and just simple, nice fillings like that. You get a good amount of Salad with them. They are already made up and on a tray so you can see how they look. You can get one made specially though if you don't want Salad on etc. The Rolls are soft, and slightly Malty. There is a couple of different Rolls and a Baguette to choose from. I remember these costing £1.55 and thinking that was good at the time for what you got, but i'm sure last time these Rolls worked out at over £2.
The 2 best items on the Pastry side are the Sausage Rolls and their Steak Bake. Unfortunately they look a bit greasy, as you see the grease soaking through the bag if they sit for even a short while, but they are just so yummy.
The Cakes are alright as well. Not a huge choice, but all the favourites such as Doughnuts, Caramel Shortcake, Cookies etc.
A nice enough Bakers, but if it was slightly cheaper then I would think it would be better.
