Greggs in general
http://www.greggs.co.uk
Greggs the bakers seem to be everywhere. They are easily recognisable by their blue sign with an orange square and white writing and according to the news, they are set to become even more familiar with Greggs announcing their plans to open another 600 stores in the near future.
They sell the usual bakery items such as bread, biscuits, cakes, shortbread, muffins (lemon flavour, white chocolate and raspberry, double chocolate and my personal favourite, blueberry) and rolls.
They are also famous for their hot food range. This includes steak bakes, corned beef pasties, pizza slices, sausage rolls and again, my favourites, baked bean and sausage bakes - yum!
Some of the bigger stores also sell hot soups and also hot sandwiches such as all day breakfast and ham and cheese. These can also be pretty good!
As you will guess, Greggs food is not going to be very good for you but there are times when only something hot and comfort foodlike will do. I think that as with everything, it is okay in moderation.
Having said that though, I do find it a little annoying that it seems so difficult to find out any nutritional information on the foods. It doesn't list it on the bags, and there is nothing to inform you on the website either. They do say that if you have queries about their products, that you can email them but that seems very long winded and I would prefer to have the information freely available to look up. I assume that most of these things are so bad for you that they think it is better that we don't know what is in them.
Another small niggle with Greggs is that they don't accept debit cards. This was quite annoying when I had picked up a few things for people from work, got to the checkout with and tried to use my card. As I wasn't carrying cash, I then had to go and find a cashpoint before going back again.
On a positive though, there are some which are open very late or even 24 hours to catch pub and party goers, and once you have been out and have munchies, these do hit the spot.
All in all though, a treat from Greggs now and again goes down well, I dislike seeing very young children eating them though simply because they are not very healthy, even if they are cheap and quick. I think that as adults, we can at least make an informed decision about their fat content. But who am I to judge.
I do recommend Greggs but not to often, keep them for a now and again treat on a cold day!
Summary: A now and again treat
