Advantages: taste, price, variety

Disadvantages: no nutritional information

Having been out for a few hours today and wanting a bit of something to eat I called at Greggs for a quick bite and it occured to me that I could write a review about them, DooYoo is starting to effect me away from the computer now lol...

Anyway; Greggs, familiar name on the high street and found in shopping malls all over, the simple blue and white logo is recognisible and you always know when its lunchtime as the queues stretch out the doors. Ive previously confessed to having a savoury tooth rather than a sweet one and Greggs is always a favourite place to go when I have a savoury urge.

Their sausage rolls are a particular favouite of mine and apparently is one of their best selling products, it is simply a "savoury-tooths" dream come true, the pastry is always light and crumbly and the sausage meat contained within has a lovely combination of meat and herb taste. I like mine to have cooled down a little bit as straight out of the oven they are far too hot but either way they are delicious.

Greggs offer a wide selection of both sweet and savoury choices, from savoury bakes and sandwiches to iced buns and cakes and for a quick lunchtime snack you really cant beat them. They also offer hot drinks and soups and have recently started doing breakfast sandwiches of sausage or bacon. All items are freshly baked in store and are very reasonably priced.

Prices may vary from region to region but where I live sausage rolls are priced at 65p each and 2 for £1.10, bakes and pizza slices are around the £1.30 mark and sandwiches vary from 90p for a simple cheese roll up to £1.99 for a premium meat sandwich with garnishes.

The only thing that lets Greggs down in my opinion is that Nutritional Information is not available either instore or on Greggs own website, in their own words the reason they dont provide this is because:

"Currently, our divisions use different suppliers and different ingredients, therefore the values can differ from region to region. At present we are analysing all of our products with a view to making the nutritional information available to all of our customers."

Which seems a bit of a cop out to me. All in all though I do rate Greggs very highly, the cost and variety they offer make them a great place to stop off for if you fancy a snack or quick lunch. They're probably not the healthiest things in the world that you can eat, but as with everything, moderation is the key.

3/5 for me, loses 2 stars for not providing nutritional information. Harsh? maybe but everywhere else seems to manage to tell you that information.

Summary: great for a quick snack or lunch on the run

clairelw101: yes, I find that as well. I don't know whether it's a regional thing, or whether there's always this problem.

I'd better warn my friends with food allergies.
