Advantages: Cheap, good customer service
Disadvantages: Cold food, not a great selection
Popped into town today for a quick bite to eat before having to dash of so that my partner could pick his son up from school and because we didn't have enough time for something "proper" we nipped into greggs.
I'm sure you all know what Greggs is and where to find one as they seem to be on pretty much every high street nowadays. Just look for the blue greggs sign with the massive queue coming out the door at lunch times.
Greggs do a variety of food from sandwichs to pasties to cakes to bread, in theory something for everyone. They also do different offerings to tie in with charity events (pudsy cakes at the moment) to special sandwiches and pasties for Christmas.
The one problem I have with greggs is that they are very popular and I have found several times in the past that you have to wait for things to come out of the oven (not good if you are in a rush) or if you leave it a bit till its quitened down then the food has a habit of being a bit on the cold side. Not nice when your trying to eat a semi-warm, soggy sausage roll.
Today we went in and there was hardly anything left. I'm not that much of a picky eater, partner can be (he won't eat fish, not that keen on eggs) and after having a few bad experiences recently with the hot food not being hot all I wanted to risk was a sandwich. At the moment I'm pregnant so have to be careful what I can eat, the one thing that jumped out at me was the brie, bacon and cranberry baton (can't have), that left egg sandwiches, prawn, tuna, some very dodgy looking cheese sandwichs and a chicken and mango. Not a great choice and it wasn't that late, I understand that food outlets like Greggs have to be careful what they make after a certain time due to wastage but really surely they also need to think about their other customers who go in late to avoid the rush??
And it wasn't just the sandwich section, the cakes were the same just some doughnuts and xmas ring cakes left and the hot pasty bit was just as bad.
The staff are always friendly and polite and the service is normally quick (unless your waiting for the oven) but they seemed to stand around wondering why people were not responding to the whose next please? It didn't seem to register that it was because the selection was so poor people were struggling to find something to have.
In the end the chicken and mango sandwich was really nice, the bread was soft but cruchy on the crust but next time I go if the selection is this bad I'll walk out and go the extra couple hundred yards to M&S for a sandwich, yes they run out at lunchtimes but they do re-stock more often.
Summary: If you go late try somewhere else
