Advantages: So much choice

Disadvantages: Very unhealthy

After moving from Glasgow to Peterborough I was surprised by the switch from literally dozens of the bakeries at every turn to absolutely none at all and after a while I realised how much I missed Greggs and the variety it offers against a supermarket sandwich on my lunch break and is great value to boot.

When my local Baker's Oven announced that it was to become a Greggs the joy it gave me might not feel rational to others. I was over the moon. When walking to my new Greggs (in my mind I was skipping) I thought of all the different combinations I could have. Would I have a Steak Bake and a Sausage Roll, a Scotch Pie or one of their delicious Oval Bite sandwiches?

When I arrived I was a little disappointed to find that although the sign above the door had changed and there were lots of new products the Bakers Oven prices seemed to have stayed the same and are on average 25% more expensive than the Greggs I knew and fell in love with, one example of this is the disappointing 2 rather than 3 sausage rolls for £1.50.

Saying that, they've definitely got me over a barrel with this one and against the competition it still represents good value for money. One issue with my bakery being a new one is that people haven't yet discovered the Greggs magic and i'm yet to see queues out the door. Maybe those Paddy McGuinness adverts are turning people away?

What this means is that the temperature of your baked products is at the mercy of the Greggs gods. I know a variation is understandable and is to be expected between busier and quiet periods. I took heart from being told my cheese and onion pastie had a slight heat and prepared me for what was in that white paper bag. Yesterday I got no such warning and I bit into my first properly cold Steak Bake which was a bit disappointing considering I was paying a premium for it.

I'm hopeful though that in time more Greggs stores will open and an increase in popularity will lead to an increase in quality like i've been accustomed to. Here's hoping!

Summary: I love Greggs!
