Advantages: Errmm... large list of cocktails?
Disadvantages: Terrible, terrible food.
...my hard-earned cash!! My girlfriend has been to this restaurant a few times a while ago and was eager to go bck, so while doing some shopping we decided to have lunch there. We should have gone to BurgerKing! The short description of this restaurant above says Italian, but Italian/American would be closer, seeing as most of the stuff on the menu is more like diner food with some Italian dishes thrown in for effect. I ordered a cheese-burger which was the most daring thing I could find on the menu and my girlfriend ordered a chicken sandwich. Then we had a chance to look around at the decor... From the outside Grinch just looks like any other city-centre restaurant of which there are hundreds. And inside it is just the same - uninspiring and bland with a few mirrors up around the dull (yet brightly coloured) room, giving you the chance to look into nooks and crannies around the corner if you so wish. The bar is bigger than the restaurant floor so maybe it is unfair to class this as an eaterie. A look at the drinks list shows a more comprehensive range of cocktails than the food that was on offer, so maybe Grinch should be moved away to the 'Bars which also serve food' section of Dooyoo. After our quick look about our food came out... I had ordered the cheeseburger (in case you can't remember what I wrote 20 lines ago) and that is what I got, with some measly chips. The berger consisted of the bread roll, a burger and a square slice single serving cheese thang. No salad, other than the scant piece of green stuff that sat on the side of my plate as a garnish, no relish or mustard! And I was paying about £4 for this! My girlfriends chicken sandwich turned out to be a chicken burger with the burger-bit cut into uneven strips. Again there was no salad or anything else to try and pep up the state of the food. See, if this hadn't been a restaurant and I had got this kind of deal then I would have complained. Bu
t I have a system and that system clearly stsates: "Do NOT annoy anyone who is going to be preparing you food!!!" You don't know what they are going to do in retaliation! Well I do, sort of. I used to work in a restaurant, and although I never did anything that would have upset a customer, I have seen things that would make you ill. I will never write a Dooyoo account of that restaurant... Anyway, after the meal we paid and left, leaving no tip which is very strange for me, and talked about our food more ruthlessly once we had got into the safety of a packed Manc street. We came to the conclusion that if Grinch is the kind of place whose food you liked you would be better off going to BurgerKing and getting in a queue. Don't waste time with menus! Just look at the back-lit signs along the ceiling! Since my girlfriend was last there they must have changed management of chef or something...

- 27/04/01 I thought you'd written in the completely wrong category at first as I've never actually heard of this place, good opinion though. |
