Advantages: They sell only fish and chips, You can sit down at a table
Disadvantages: No mint sauce, Second-rate food, More expensive
The very idea of it! A fish and chip shop that gets some highfaluted idea that they are a resturant. Its proposterous - especially as its owned by a motorway services chain. Now I could understand it if they were serving the very finest food, but they simply are not. Its just an excuse to sell bog standard fish and chips at higher prices. I have eaten there three times (OK so I am not exactly an authority on the subject), but twice the meals were mediocre, and once it was so bad that they gave it us for free. The chips are kind of soggy yet shrivelled, like they have been reheated in a microwave. The fish is OK, but nothing special. The batter is a bit hard for my liking. The mushy peas arent that good, more of a bright green coloured pea puree. Ask for mint sauce with them and I am sure that they are trained to look suprised. Its not that uncommon to have mint sauce with mushy peas is it? Personally I dont like them without it, and Harry Ramsdens does not have any! If you like fish and chips you can do a lot better than visit this outfit. Im sure it isnt quite the worlds worst fish and chip shop, but it sure comes close!

- 04/06/01 I couldn't agree more. I went on a coach trip to Liverpool. The coach trip itself was excellent, with a funny guide and a tour of all the sites. Unfortunately, it ended with a 'meal' at Harry Ramsdens. Oh dear. I asked if they had any food on the menu. What a lot of greasy slop. Dreadful experience. Glad I'm not the only one to think so. |

Sadly the sites in the Harry Ramsden franchise network aren't a patch on the real thing (in Guiseley, W.Yorks).
If you want the world's BEST fish and chips then this really is the only place to go!
