Advantages: The Salad Bar and Generally Nice Service & Atmosphere

Disadvantages: Not Enough Veggie Dishes

I have heard quite a bit about Harvester in the past, however I have never had the opportunity to try out this place until today....

Understand though that this review will be primarily based on the Vegeterian dishes, as me and the friend I went with are both vegeterians and hence it would be unfair on me to comment on how the meat food tasted.

In terms of atmosphere the Harvester is very chilled out. Think nandos but a bit quieter. The place is advertised as a pub and grill, however there does not seem to be a pub element to it and it is much more like a restauarant.

To order food it is nothing like Nandos though and much more like a normal restaurant, you wait for a waiter who will take your order and the food takes around fifteen minutes to arrive which is a pretty fast turnaround.

Now where Harvester really takes off is that the salad bar is completely free. When my friend told me this I didn't believe, but it is true. It is a great way to start filling your stomach before the main dish arrives and the salad bar really is great. You have all the standards salad vegetables plus excellent sauces, one that is the same as the Subway Southwest sauce and there is even free basic pasta and bread roles. To be honest it is possible to fill yourself up on this bar alone, so make sure you save enough room for the main dish.

There are only two Vegeterian dishes there. One is the simple pasta dish which comes with garlic bread. This is £4.99 and the other is the Mushroom and Cheese dish, for £5.99, which comes with potatoes and peas. Me and my friend ordered one of each and it was definitely money well spent.

The mushroom dish was excellent and makes a great change from other vegeterian dishes. However I think instead of the peas they should have had beans and maybe some chips on the dish as well. Maybe next time I will request that instead and see if they comply. If they do it would be a great meal for me.

I didn't got for any desserts and the waiter did seem to have a hard point understand that neither me or my friend were going to have any desserts. First he asked and we said no thanks and asked for the bill, then he came back five minutes later and dropped off two desert menus and quickly went to serve someone else. We were amused at this stage and then five minutes later he came back again and asked what deserts we were having. Again we asked for the bill and this time he actually did bring the bill, although a good five minutes later.

Still this did not spoil a pleasent experience, and I will be definitely visiting again in the future. I just wish they would have a couple more veggie dishes, as it is a completely meat dominated menu. I guess with an American pub style restauarant this was always going to be the case, but I can still hope. 4 stars.

Summary: Definitely a new favourite of mine.

No dessert? Such will power should be commended!

Don 't know if we've got one of these in our area. Must look.

There's one of these opened near us, think I'll have to give it a try, but have to admit I think the lack of veggie dishes would be a downside for me too. Good review.
