After a day at Boscombe beach it seemed right to use the Harvester (the Neptune) right by the pier, this had previously been a Brewers Fayre the last time I visited and had been spot on aswell as conveniently located.

Times have obviously changed - every pub knows its size and busy times and even though this was a bank holiday in a prime location we found a table no problem, this to me says for a pub restaurant they are not filled to capacity so some fluidity as service could be expected.

The area we were sat in was untidy, empty tables not cleared and food on the floor, drinks spilled on the tables and chairs not returned. We emptied our own table onto the next but refused to let my daughter to lean on it until it had been cleaned. When someone did appear to clean the tables in our area they cleaned everyone save ours, my partner had to go back after he guy and ask him to clean the table.

After selecting from the menu we ordered at the bar, we had a combo starter and a main each. After 30 minutes we decided to enquire at the bar on progress, and were told theres a 30 minute wait for food. OK I'll be fair it must be due any minute I thought returning to the table, after 15 minutes no sign, I returned to bar to be told "there is a long wait on food"! By this time half the place was empty and I'd only seen one meal come out. Anyway after refusing to leave the bar he disappeared and then eventually reappeared with the starters and the mains (yes all at the same time).

The meals were only mildy warm and relatively tastless, and the sandwiches were made on bread that wasn't fresh. This place was a huge disappointment, and I was left feeling may be they now catered to an evening / drinking crowd and the staff try to deter people from eating by advising long waiting times. This might seem harsh but a place in Bournemouth said exactly the same later in the week - I said "even for a sweet?" the reply came yes.

Don't go here - the place needs some decent management and cleaning and attention to customer service.
