Disadvantages: Large portions
Havester Pub and Grill.
I recently ate at Harvester in Exeter with My Dad and my 8 year old daughter. We got there around 6.30 and there were plenty of people already there but still plenty of spare tables.
We were greeted almost instantly by a waitress who led us to a table, I will point out that we hadn't booked a table, as we were show to our table we are taken past spit roasting chickens, and an inviting salad counter.
The menu itself has quite a varied selection
They have a range of starters as well as curries, flame grilled chicken dishes, steaks, platters, burgers, grills and classics, fish dishes, vegetarian and pasta dishes.
Prices start at £2.00 + for a starter and go up to £15.00 for a platter.
I found that I was struggling to decide which to chose, not because there wasn't anything I liked the sound of, but because there were too many nice things to choose from.
Dad and I both ordered the Gammon and pineapple (this can also be served with egg) My daughter chose a child's sausage and mash. Once we placed our order we were invited to help ourselves to the salad bar.
The salad bar has a range of delicious salads, and potato salad, pasta salad, choices of bread rolls and dressings, the bowls you are given for the salad bar are quite small but you can go back as many times as you like. The salad bar selection is very tasty and counts as a nice starter or you can wait and have it with your main meal. We didn't wait very long for our meal to be served, maybe 10-15 minutes after sitting down. The servings are huge and my Dad did comment on how generous the child's portion was. I did notice how nice the mash potato looked on my daughters plate, I don't think it was plane mash I think it was mashed with suede or something it looked, smelt and tasted great, and my daughter really enjoyed it.
Our gammon steak was not your average round slice of gammon (like you'd buy in a packet in the supermarket) this gammon was really thick like a sirloin steak, it wasn't what I was expecting, such a pleasant surprise. The gammon tasted great too, not too salty like gammon can sometimes be, and the pineapple was definitely not pineapple from a tin, it was a thick cut of fresh pineapple, this was accompanied with thick chips and a huge serving of peas.
We all left food are on plates, not because we didn't enjoy it, just because there was so much of it.
The atmosphere and the service was great and the restaurant has a lovely decor.
The have colouring packs to keep children entertained which pleased my daughter.
Are meal came to around £21.00 for the 3 meals 3 drinks and a child's desert, you don't pay for the salad bar. I found this price to be very reasonable for the quality of the food. I also found it be very reasonable because I didn't pay for it my Dad did (thanks Dad x).

My daughter did have a children's ice cream which again was a generous portion and came with a wafer and a choice of sauce toppings the main desserts did look delicious and people did appear to be enjoying them.
I am a fan of Harvester it is a pleasant experience to eat out and they are very family friendly.
Everything was clean.
Summary: Great menus, excellent quality great prices
