That's how I first heard of Ikkyu - they do eat all you can sushi, early evenings for about £13.50 a head. So off we went. I don't remember the particular decor of the restaurant, except, like many places around Chinatown it's functional rather than elegant of sumptuous. We had a group of 8, so were bizarrely lucky enough to get a booth where we had to remove our shoes and kneel.. I don't think most of the other diners shared this experience as the majority of the restaurant was normal tables. Once you've ordered the eat all you can deal, the very efficient and surprisingly polite waitresses bring little books of what look like raffle tickets, but, which are in reality tiny menus for different styles of cuisine, including sushi. So it's a limited selection you're choosing from, but there were no complaints from our party. You tick as many things as you want and they bring enough for the whole table. And then, when and if you feel like it, you tick some more and they bring more. Our meal consisted of sushi (mostly salmon and tuna, but with more exotic stuff too), chinese style dishes, like dim sum style... and a Thai curry - greatly enjoyed by everyone. With lashing of soy sauce, horseradish and all appropriate toppings. We were in the restaurant for the 2 hours alloted (the only proviso about the whole eat all you can deal, it has to be within 2 hours...) and none of us could walk afterwards. A VERY successful evening which I cannot wait to try again. Obviously with less people you may not get the chance to try as many things as the guilt about leaving things uneaten always lingers.. but it's a great way to test sushi in amongst more 'safe' and known dishes.
