Advantages: great food, take your own wine
Disadvantages: not quite as nice downstairs
I have been to Kanes Restaurant twice, once over last New Year and once about 2 weeks ago - from the date I wrote this. Each time I have been extremely impressed with the quality of the food. Decor The decor and the general atmosphere of the restaurant is great. It is very tasefully decorated - stone floor - sprial staircase in the middle and nice lighting around the place. My personal opinion is that the upstairs is a bit nicer so if booking I would request a table up there. Food As I said above I cannot fault the food. I have been on two seperate occasions - once with family, once with friends and everyone in the group has been impressed. The menu is offer is a la carte - 3 course meal ( and a chesse board) came out at £20 / head. Just as a taster for the type of food last time I ate : Spicy Chicken Thai Salad (starter), Duck in Orange and Cointrau Sauce and then Baileys Cheese Cake - delicious! Bring Your Own The restaurant does not have a licence so you can bring your own wine or beer. Both wine and beer glasses are provided and also there is a cork screw on the table - so you are not charaged corkage. A range of soft drinks are sold on the premises. Staff The staff are very polite and also very friendly to customers Price As said above the price of about £20 / head for a 3 course meal is very reasonable especially for the quality. Also by taking your own wine you tend to save some money that way. Parking / Getting there There is generally ample parking outside the restaurant. A taxi from Solihull town centre would cost less than £5. Busses run from the centre of Birmingham and would take about 20mins. I wouldn't advise the train as the station is a fair walk out. Overall I would say you will have a good night out with family / friends in a nice relaxed atmosphere with great food - what more can you want! Just on a side note there is another restaurant owned by th
e same people in Hatton - Warwickshire -by all accounts equally as good, but I haven't been there myself. Only difference is their standard a la carte menu is five course - so if you're feeling hungry....!

- 23/07/01 Have walked past this restaurant and perused the menu about a million times but haven't yet tried it. On this recommendation I've decided that I'm definitely get some friends together and give it a try. Thanks. |
