Fast food, but fresh rather than fast please

Disadvantages: Drive through is a bit dodgy
Yesterday, I must confess I was in no mood for cooking. I know lazy old me so I asked my husband to go to the local KFC drive through and pick up some food for us all for dinner.
I have eaten many times in KFC and have always found all there food tasty and hot, well prepared and served fresh and hot. That is until Yesterday.
We ordered the KFC Variety bucket at £12.99.
What is the Variety Bucket?
Eight pieces of the original recipe chicken,
Four crispy chicken strips,
A regular portion of popcorn chicken,
Six regular fries,
One pot of coleslaw
One pot of beans
1.5 litre of Pepsi
We only live about four minutes drive from the KFC drive through so you expect the food to be still hot by the time my husband arrived home.
I had three major problems with this meal yesterday and have since found out I am not the only person to experience problems with this branch.
All the chicken was cold, as were the fries. I know it is a drive through but only four minutes away you would expect the food to still have a lot of heat even the fries.
Not only was the chicken dark brown and rock hard to touch but someone had actually pulled a little piece of the chicken and the coating to reveal the flesh, but this piece was all nice and crisp where it was obvious that it had been put back into the fryer to re-heat it.
Ok by the time this was revealed I already had my husband trying to find the phone number out for me as I was going to complain, but I thought I may as well check it all before I phoned just in case. I opened the carton of beans and to my horror, they had mould growing on the top of them and up the side of the pot and it was all green and furry.
The Branch Phone Call
I immediately got on the phone to the branch and I must confess they were polite and courteous and asked if I would mind returning the meal so they could sort this matter out, so I gave them my name and we all proceeded to return the KFC, as I do not drive.
The Branch Manager.
The young woman who came to deal with me was not labelled as the manager, and upon asking, she told me sorry, the manager is busy at the moment. I produced the food and to my horror, she had two other members of staff join her and all three stood in front of me examining g the Beans and chicken. Firstly, I was told that the mould was not mould it was burnt beans. In addition, that there was nothing wrong with the chicken and did I want the beans replaced.
I could have screamed at them at this point but hey no what would that achieve so I asked for all the food back and said I would take it to environmental health and health and safety departments to get there decision.
Surprise, surprise the manager appeared. He then proceeded to have a good look at the meal and he admitted that it was definitely mould and there was a problem with the chicken. I was promptly offered a fresh cooked replacement and my money back.
In addition, what of the staff who called it burn, they were promptly seen removing all the chicken from the heater cabinets and opening all the tubs of beans to check them all.
Altogether, although it took a bit of threats of environmental health, I did have a hot fresh cooked meal served and my money back, but on the other hand, I think I would have only got fresh beans if I had not threatened them with this.
After speaking with a friend later that evening I found out, I am one of many people who have complained about the drive through at this branch.
I am in no way saying that all branches are the same, but I do say that KFC have a reputation for passing on the older food to the drive through customers. They also are famously known for giving you mostly wings, instead of only two, which is the maximum you should have in any of the Bucket range.
To Sum Up
I must confess it has turned me right off KFC for a long time, if not forever. I highly recommend to anyone who uses there drive thru facility that the go straight to the car park and check there meal is correct, hot, fresh and not overcooked. That way you can take it straight back to them if you do have a problem.
