Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)
Advantages: It's quick and quite tasty.
Disadvantages: It's not the best food in the world.
If ashamed to admit that I've become a bit too familiar with this KFC over the past month - my boyfriend's kitchen has recently been refurbished and we were unable to cook for about four weeks. This has resulted in McDonalds, KFC, Chinese and Indian food being consumed far too regularly!
******** The food ********
KFC is obviously famed for its Kentucky fried chicken that my boyfriend loves and he buys it from the chippy fairly often and was looking forward to trying the local KFC's version. However, although we have now tried KFC' fried chicken on about three occasions (just to make sure) neither of us have been particularly impressed. The fried skin isn't very nice, it's very greasy and I don't think the quality of the chicken is fantastic either. Don't get me wrong, it is edible, but very average and it's saying something when the local chip shop makes better fried chicken!
The chicken breast meat used on the burgers is much nicer - it is juicy and tender and tastes nice with the salad and mayonnaise condiments.
The fries that you get with a standard meal are not very nice. They are dry and quite unappetising. Personally I won't eat the fries anymore because I just don't think they are nice at all (they are certainly not a patch on McDonalds fries).
There is, however one item that I love to get from KFC... the gravy! The thick gravy (that you can order on the side) is really tasty. I love it and it makes the chicken taste really nice.
I also quite like to order the corn on the cob - it makes a change to be able to order something remotely healthy from a takeaway establishment (although the corn does occasionally come full of butter - which isn't healthy at all!).
******** The price ********
I think that KFC is quite good value, you can get a burger, a piece of chicken on the bone, a side order (gravy, corn, beans or coleslaw), chips and a drink for about £4. Compared to similar fast food restaurants (*cough* McDonalds), that isn't bad at all.
KFC also has a "streetwise menu" which offers a range of items (including: mini wraps, chicken bites, a mini burger and fries) for 99p. This means that if you want a quick snack then you can pick one up for a good price.
******** The service *******
To be honest the service I've received in most KFCs has been pretty mediocre. You get helpful staff and you get unhelpful staff - that's the way the cookie crumbles. However I have been slightly miffed that the last two times I've been to the KFC drive through my order has been incorrect, so I'd advise you to check yours in the car park before you drive home!
******** Overall **********
Overall I'd say that KFC is a pretty average place to eat. Some of the food items are tasty and others aren't that nice. Some staff members are helpful, while others are unhelpful. Price wise it's pretty average too - three out of five stars from me.
Summary: Very average!
