Advantages: Nice food, Bucket meals

Disadvantages: Still not great

I've written reviews on McDonalds and Burger King already, so I may as well complete the trio and say what I think about KFC.

To me KFC is very much the forgotten fast food restaurant. It comes a very definite third to McDonalds and Burger King, not least because none of my friends will go there. I have a hard enough job getting them to go to Burger King, but KFC is virtually impossible.

KFC, which I should say stands for Kentucky Fried Chicken, is very much in the same category as McDonalds and Burger King, just that rather than your beef you get chicken. And that's just about the only difference! The mascot for KFC is the good ol' Colonel Sanders, and if I haven't been completely brainwashed, he was actually a real person who founded KFC. Born in 1890 the Colonel (couldn't have been a Colonel then though!!) started cooking chicken for his family at the age of 6. At the age of 40 he started selling his chicken, and 5 years later he was made a Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky for his addition to the cuisine of the area. The colonel developed a secret recipe which is still kept in a safe in Kentucky. In 1955 the Colonel founded the KFC chain and ten years later KFC came to the UK. What a nice story, as long as it really is true and not just chain store propaganda.

You can get various different meals, involving chicken of various types. KFC claim that their chickens are reared using only the best ingredients, and while they do use real chicken and not reconstituted rubbish, I doubt that their chicken is of a higher quality than any other fast food joint.

The meals you can buy change around from time to time, but here's a quick run down of some of the more popular choices.......

KFC have two main types of meal, plain chicken or chicken in a burger.

For £2.99 you get the original recipe meal, which comes with two bits of chicken, fries and a drink. The chicken variety meal comes with 3 bit
s of chicken and some spicy wings or crispy strips, fries and a drink for £3.99. You get 3 crispy strips of chicken, drink and fries for £3.29.

You can get chicken fillets or zingers, in either a normal burger or a tower burger (with cheese and hash brown).

The food is all nice, but as I said before - you can either have chicken or chicken. The original recipe comes in a nice crispy coating, while the strips are more like breadcrumbs. The zinger and spicy chicken wings are a little more spicy than the normal chicken, but they're still chicken! Still, the chicken itself is nice. It's real chicken, tasty and succulent. The spicy coatings do make a difference, but whatever you choose it's nice food. I don't find the burgers as nice, it's probably just me but I prefer beef in a burger - chicken just isn't the same.

Fries are just bog standard, similar to McDonalds. They aren't bad, but they aren't great either. They don't live up to the standards of the local chippy, but then which fast food joint is!

The standard meals don't really fill you up that much either, its no less filling than a McDonalds but you still feel hungry afterwards (or at least I do). But this is one area that KFC excels in, because it you have on or two friends with you and fancy a big feast, you can buy one of their bucket meals and have a feast!!

There are different types of these buckets on offer, but for example for £10 you get 10 pieces of chicken, 4 fries and a bottle of coke. It's certainly enough to fill three people up, or two who are very hungry!! They even have some family feast meals which even come with a Vienetta for pudding!

Price wise KFC are comparable with the other two big fast food chain stores, although their bucket and feast meals do offer better value for money.
