KFC
KFC or Kentucky Fried Chicken if you like is a ?different? kind of fast food restaurant. By this I mean it is one of the few places where the food comes hot, the chips come chunky and the meat has taste.
At the moment KFC is my number 1 fast food choice. The prices are good and the food is filling. There are 2 KFC?s that are local to me, and I must say I think that the location matters as the ?quality? of food varies from place to place.
Walking into both places the appearance is the same. Red plastic booths, red and white walls, staff with red and white uniforms and red faces from running around so quickly! (McD?s staff could do with a lesson in this!).
Like other fast food places KFC offers individual meals compromising of a burger or nuggets in their ?special recipe? coating, fries and a drink. Normally for around the £3 mark.
What makes KFC good is that it offers family meals from about £7.99 upwards. The meal I normally get is the variety combo for £9.99 which includes 4 hotwings 4 chicken strips, about 4 pieces of chicken (normally only 1 leg!!) 4 fries. We normally get beans and gravy with this order, which takes the price up to about £11.
This meal is very nice and offers a bit of variety with the hotwings.
When you order a ?family meal? you can add on extras for 99p. These are really good and include corn on the cob, which is normally cooked to perfection and will save for the next day if you?re too full to manage it! You can also get 2 ?sides? for 99p which includes coleslaw, beans and gravy. KFC gravy is very nice! Really thick and meaty tasting with just the right amount ?spices? which make it slightly hot. The beans also have a spicy kick, but you could probably recreate this effect at home with a cheap tin of beans and some chilli powder!! You can also have a bottle of Pepsi or a vienetta, but at my local they hardly ever have the ice cream in stock!
The next size up from the varie
ty combo?s are the huge buckets. These come in 10 piece or 14 piece. Last time we got the 14 piece we were so full that we had to save some and have it he next day for dinner. This meal includes 14 pieces of chicken, 6 fries, 2 sides and a bottle of Pepsi. I think that this one is very good value because no matter how hungry you are, you are always full at the end and swear that you will never eat it again?.until next time!.
Overall I think you can guess that I am normally pleased by my meal!
Now I want to go on to the quality of the food.
One weekend I decided to go into Pontefract to do some shopping, deciding that I wanted chicken for tea I went into their local KFC to get a bucket to take home with me.
The first problem was getting through the door, as the place was totally packed! Admittedly, this was through no fault of the staff as they were rushing around trying to serve as quickly as possible.
When I got to the front I ordered a variety combo. Now normally I am served pretty quickly, but in this instance after queuing for 15 minutes I then had to wait for my fries. This wouldn?t have been so bad except for the fact that while my fries were cooking, my chicken had been put onto the counter and was losing heat by the minute!
Normally when you order a meal that has the strips of chicken in, you get free dips with it. The woman serving me didn?t put any in, so I asked her if she could put some in the bag. Not a problem she said, yet when I unpacked everything when I got home there wasn?t a dip in sight (no comments please!!)
For me biting into a large piece of their coated chicken is a pleasure. However not so much in this instance. Now I know the chicken is deep-fried. But when I bit into this piece, the oil just kept coming out, resulting in a very greasy and squidgy piece of meat and crumbs not really fit for eating.
Now I know the place was busy but the chicken really was disgusting.
I have never had this problem at the KFC I normally use. This restaurant again is always very busy, but the staff always have time for you, and they have never once got my order wrong. The chicken is always cooked to perfection and never swimming in oil.
My advice is, like with anything shop around!. The difference in location really does make a difference to the food. If you do try a KFC that you don?t like then don?t let this put you off, try making a different one your new ?local?.
Overall the food is good and cheap and you get a lot for your money compared with the like of McD?s
If you have the craving this is the place to go with your

Wonderful review regarding KFC, and totally true. I work at a very busy KFC at Hartshead Moor Services on the M62 Westbound. Our chicken is great and still good value even if a little more expensive than the high street. The one in Dewsbury is not so busy and is totally disgusting TRUST ME!!!! the restuarant is never clean the food is always cold and the customer service is terrible. Ever want to try us at Hartshead feel free and ask for me- Ange Collins. So location does matter !!!!!
