Advantages: Family run and welcoming

Disadvantages: None come to mind!

Kyrenia is a restaurant based in Caversham within Reading which opened up in 2002 and continues to be run by the Germanos family.

I visited Kyrenia for a valentines day meal and it was definitely the perfect place. A cosy setting with homely food and great service - what more could you need?

We had a 'selection of starters' to begin with that let us taste a variety of Greek dishes which were mainly vegetarian. The usual Humus, taramasolata, tzatziki served with grilled pitta bread but also some interesting beetroot combinations and stuffed vine leaves

The mains naturally have the staples of Greek dishes; Moussaka, Souvlakia and Kleftiko as well as some nice vegetarian meals (the layers of aubergines, courgettes & potatoes with a white sauce sounded very good!) and seafood such as Calamari. I chose the Kleftiko - Lamb baked slowly in the oven with oregano, onions, garlic & rosemary - which was amazing, cooked perfectly until the meat fell of the bone and melted in the mouth.

We skipped desserts but there was lemon tart as well as some Greek pastries and a couple of dished based upon the simple, but delicious, Greek yoghurt and honey

Prices for starters: £3.50 - 7
Prices for mains: £8 - 15
Prices for desserts: £4 - 5

There's a decent choice on the wine list with the most expensive bottle around £25

The staff were a delight - very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine and you could tell that they really cared about it. I guess that's the difference between the many, many chain restaurants that exist and a family run restaurant.

There is also free parking (after 3pm) just behind the restaurant which is also a bonus for a town centre place!

With many chain restaurant and endless Italians all over Reading this really is a dining experience that is a break from the norm - highly recommended!

Summary: Fantastic food and great atmosphere

Sounds fab - my parents live near Reading and I love Greek food , sounds worth a trip. Stuffed vine leaves are my favourite!
