Well okay it's probably the best Italian in Aberdeen! La Lombarda is Aberdeen's oldest Italian restaurant established in 1922. It is situated on the corner of Union Street, which is Aberdeen's main shopping street, and King Street, another one of Aberdeen's main streets. Its open 7 days a week as a restaurant and a bistro and the opening times are as follows - BISTRO Mon -Fri 12 noon - 2pm Sat 12 noon - 5pm RESTAURANTE (yes that is how they spell it!) Fri & Sat 5pm onwards Sun to Thurs 5pm onwards The restaurant has recently expanded but has managed to keep a cosy feel. Try and get a table in the original restaurant that is dimly lit with small tables. The tables in the new area are large and brightly lit. The décor is probably typical Italian restaurant. There are lots of red, white and green and terracotta ornaments. The music is always Italian opera but at a nice background level. Okay that's the boring bit over with now! Now for the juicy bit! They serve a variety of food including pasta, pizzas, fish and steaks. Seafood is a bit of a speciality what with Aberdeen being right beside the sea! All the fish is fresh daily and there is always at least one fish dish on the specials board. The specials board has at least 1 starter and 4 main dishes on it. This makes the choice huge as the menu is very extensive! The menu is divided into salads and antipasti to start with. The main courses are divided into sections such as pasta, pizzas, house specialities, seafood and European dishes (such as steaks). The desserts revolve around the best of Italy - lots of ice cream, tiramisu etc. I have been at La Lombarda a lot. It's one of my favourite places to eat. The last time I was there was for my birthday which was a couple of days ago. I had mussels in a white wine and cream sauce. Be careful if you order this - it's huge! It is easily enough for two people so y
ou may want to share this! My partner had a seafood salad that contained about every type of seafood possible - squid, mussels, cockles, marinaded tuna etc. My main course was scampi in a gorgeous tomato cream sauce. It came with lots of vegetables - potatoes, broccoli, cabbage and a rice timbale with a tomato sauce. Rather a large plateful! Thanks to all this I couldn't manage a sweet event though they looked gorgeous. Maybe next time I won't have a starter?.. There is a good wine list as well with Italian wine well represented obviously. The wines are reasonably priced and red, white, rose and even non-alcoholic wines! They do lots of student deals so it is an excellent place for students for a cheap night out. Its very popular with people who are out for a drink and suddenly decide to go for a meal. It's warm, friendly and great value for money! If you are ever in Aberdeen give it a try. You will have a great meal.
