Advantages: Large selection of food

Disadvantages: Poor service

La Tasca Chelmsford is situated in Backnang Square in Chelmsford where there is also a Costa coffee, Yates, Wetherspoons, Que Pasa and Edwards bar too so there is plenty of competition around.

It's a Spanish themed restaurant with a selection of tapas and paella. This particular restaurant has a lovely outside area which is great in the summer.

Inside tables have candles although if you're very hungry make sure to ask for a larger table as if you have lots of tapas it can be quite a squeeze as their tables are very small!

Staff are polite but my problem whenever i have come here is that the service is just so so slow. Even when i have been one of only a few customers drinks can take up to twenty minutes to arrive and food takes ages too and has often been cold.

On the food front they recommend having 3-4 tapas per person and this is definitely more than enough! For a quick lunch 2 would be enough each unless you are especially hungry.

The best dishes i have had in here are the potatoes bravas, meatballs, chorizo and the tomato and feta cheese salad. I have to say that on regular occasions the food has been either cold or just disappointing. When we have complained to the manager she has always blamed this on staff training which just isn't acceptable to me - staff should be trained in the kitchen before they are able to work there and if the food is always bad they need to change their chef!

That said i do still go back for a change as Chelmsford is dominated by Italian restaurants and it makes a nice change to go for tapas instead.

Summary: Nice for an average experience
