Last weekend I went out for a meal with 12 friends to celebrate my birthday. Being my usual organised self, I didn't think to book anything until 3 days before! I had terrible trouble trying to find somewhere that would seat us and at a time we wanted. Three restaurants said no and one could seat us at 6.30pm which was way too early.

A friend of mine at work recommended La Vita, a cute little Italian opposite Cardiff Castle. I had never been before but she had and said it was very good but very small so I didn't hold out much hope. I was amazed that when I called they said yes! I booked a table for 8pm.

La Vita is a very new restaurant and they don't have a website so I couldn't find a menu. I wanted to have some idea of what they served and prices ao I called. The lady I sopke to was very helpful and read examples from the menu over the phone.

When we arrived at the restauarnt, there was a lovely long table waiting for us spanning the length of the room. There was only one more small table so we pretty much had the place to ourselves.

The menu was good with a range of starters. The mains were mainly pizzas but there was a very wide choice. The staff were friendly and the food came quickly. They were always on hand to offer another bottle of wine when we were running low.

The food was very nice and a very reasonable price. Pizzas were between £7 and £10 and were a good size. As it was my birthday, I was even given a free drink. They made us feel very welcome and we had a lovely evening.

This is a lovely place to go with friends for an evening and they have good deals at lunchtime too. Very nice.
