Advantages: Food, Staff
Disadvantages: Lack of communication and understanding
I went to this restaurant for the first time in the o2 on saturday to celebrate my girlfriends 23rd birthday (getting old luv!). Before we actually got there we had to do extensive research as the birthday girl wanted to go to somewhere really nice but had to remind here of the prices but this place was perfect.
Las Iguanas as it states is a Brazilian & Latin restaurant. It provides as you guessed brazilian and from what i know of the menu mexican style food aswell.
We went there to ask about possibly looking after around 30 people, they said no problem and that we could have the whole upstairs! I thought wow thats real nice. As you know booking such amounts of people a booking fee was asked at £5 which was fair and also to the fact that an event was going to be there, Strictly Come Dancing. We asked about menus and they said that there was no fixed menu and we could order what we want. The whole upstairs and no fixed menu!!! My God we hit the jackpot. We then went off to find the 30 people for the party.
A week passed and we found them, rang them up, told them the date and how many people were coming, everything was going well until they said '30 people on a events menu basis'. What? I had to get them to repeat what they said and yes we were given an events menu due to Stictly being on (DAMN YOU!!). Well I wasnt having any of it and protested until they eventually agreed to give us 20% the food bill for that night. Result!!
So apart from the menu mix up all was well, they didnt even charge me for when i rang up and asked for two more people to be added on the list. This was going to be a very good night i thought.
Party day/night came and we received a phone call from the restaurant telling me that the table would be delayed due to the event time change which i thought was very good as we wouldnt be standing around like lemons asking 'wheres our tables?'.
We got there a little later than planned but the tables were still not done due to the event and apologised for this. The staff were very polite and kept us up to date on the tables. The restaurant was very nice, had a traditional yet modern feel about it, with brazilian music played throughout the evening. The place was very looked after and the lighting was just right. It had a feel good atmosphere and was really bubbly. After about 10mins the tables were ready and we all (unfortunately half the people decide not to come!!!!) went up and were seated.
To avoid confusion and a lot of time calculating on the bill i asked for the food on one bill and the drinks on the other. The lady said what she could do was do the food on one bill and allocate everyone a tab for the drinks. I thought wonderful, the event was going so well.
Even though we had the events menu (2 courses for £16.50 or 3 course for £20), the selection of starters and mains were very good. They had the really good meals available ( plus supplements for the better ones, cheeky buggers), but they only had 3 desserts on offer which werent really to my taste but i risked it and went with a 3 course. I started off with chicken strips which were very nice and to me freshly cooked, then went all out with the main meal. Nice 8oz steak (£4 extra) which was cooked the way i wanted it and provided enough room for dessert. However no dessert came to me which had me baffled as i had told them.
Overall everyone was really satified with their food and drink and so it was time to pay. Here came the other problem. The first was that the lady had put the FOOD on the tab bill as well when i had asked her not to. She then said that she asked and that we all agreed with what she said, i then disagreed and told her how i wanted it. This proved nothing as it was already done. The other problem was that she wasnt told about my discount and so some people who had left paid full price!! I was really upset for this and so told the manager and he stated that he couldnt do anything about the other people but will give the ones here the discount. This was a shame as the manager himself gave us the discount yet did not tell any of his staff which to me felt like he was trying to get away with it. He also to me tried to be abit cheeky to the fact that not all my guests did not arrive even though i told members of staff 15-20mins after we were seated that they can remove the tables and use them for others. He was trying to say 'well you didnt bring 30 people so i'm not going to bother trying to sort you out the 20% for the people that left'. He seemed to have that sort of bad attitude, is that with all managers?! I cant help it if people decide to come and not tell me. I could of easily left it the way it was and leave half the whole of the upstairs empty.
Overall apart from the lack of communication and mix up with the bill i would recommend this restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful and very quick to our needs. The wait for food wasnt very long, the food itself was very good, even a friend of mine who is very fussy with his steaks was very pleased with his one! The prices to me are quite reasonable even if you dont go on an events night.
The restaurant is located a bit far back in entertainment avenue, past the cinema but i would say go there for a nice meal before or after an event of the cinema. For large amounts of people make sure you get the right menu and if you get a discount, tell them first just incase.
Sorry for the long review people, didnt know i coudl write so much. Enjoy or try to!
Summary: A place to chill and enjoy some good food
