Newest Review: ... so again, eating and drinking is more intimate. Even then, the tables are quite tightly packed into the space, so you can end up feeling as though you are in danger of merging with the group on the table next to you sometimes! Whilst this adds to the friendly, cosy atmosphere, if you're just looking for a quiet drink, you might find it annoying. What is certain, though, is that the atmosphere ... more  ... is always far friendlier and welcoming than in the chain coffee shops. There are also a few tables outside, although whether you want to use these will depend on the weather!

If you go to a new town and fancy a coffee, you probably go to Costa, Nero or one of the other chains. The coffee and food may not be the best quality in the world, but at least you know you can expect a certain standard. If you find yourself in Durham, though, I'd recommend you try Leonard's Coffee Shop... providing you can find it. Location is both a charm and a curse for Leonard's. Although it's actually just off the main shopping area of Durham, it's a little hidden away down a set of unprepossessing steps and at the bottom of a narrow, anonymous alley.
