Advantages: The Little Chef offers a break from the long drive but the food and service is low quality
Disadvantages: The food was old and dry wasnt worth the price we paid
I remember as a child whenever there was a family trip we would factor in a stop in the Little chef along our journey We used to travel frequently from Bristol to North Wales and a stop in the Little Chef was a welcome break from the boredom of driving.
The little Chef was usually found on motorways service stations or strategic roundabouts on main roads. They would offer the tired traveller a rest break with an excellent range of food that was of good value and excellent quality. I also remember the restaurant to be decorated well clean and have a welcoming atmosphere.
I knew that the Little Chef restaurant had changes owners but was very surprised to see how the restaurant had changed from a thriving heaven where a friendly face good quality food and a fabulous selection on the menu to an almost dirty run down café that was struggling to survive
We walked in to be met by our server who looked tired which is understandable from a busy café but didn't seem to make an effort, of course she could be having a bad day but as far as I can tell it doesn't cost anything to smile.
We sat down and looked at the menu which had also changed I ordered the fish and chips and we sat and relaxed. The de core wasn't what I expected it was tied and the whole place needed a full refurbishment. The food was also a disappointment it had obviously been standing for some time before being served to us
We cut our stop short because the food wasn't great and we didn't feel that we could make a complaint as the kitchen was behind the scenes and the front staff didn't portray confidence or a trustworthy appearance so I wasn't sure what they might do to the food.
In conclusion Our visit was very disappointing and I wouldn't recommend visiting the Little Chef near Rhyl as the food wasn't worth the money and it was quite expensive. The service was OK but nothing to write home about and the de core was drab and needing to be replaced I would rather sit in a MacDonald's and have a coffee as the whole experience was disappointing.
I loved the Little Chef years ago and was very disappointed with what the restaurant has become
Summary: The Little Chef was once a fantastic place to break up a journey but now is quite run down.

- 25/10/09 A shame. The LCs near me are better than this, though I have had bad experiences elsewhere in the past. Handy review, too. |
