Advantages: Knife & fork stuff! Quite a few branches in the country

Disadvantages: Small, (when packed watch the service level)

Anyone that has driven or been driven along a motorway has heard of Little Chef. My guess is that they probably were one of the original stables as far as road food services were concerned. I certainly remember as a little boy being treated at a Little Chef restaurant and having that ‘Lollipop’ as an after meal giveaway near the till!
Recessions came and went and Little Chef has somehow survived relatively unchanged. The chain went downhill big time once and nearly went to pot. Notorious service, dirty establishments, poor frozen foods, you name it.
I understand it is no longer owned by trust house forte. When the new owners revamped the menu everything changed. Gone were the lollipops, the cherry pancakes, the variety on the menu, even; I believe the ‘bottomless’ teas!
Suddenly and more recently, the tide has turned back again. I can wholeheartedly say that they are back to their old selves once again. Someone or something has got a message to the powers at be.
They vary branch to branch of course, but I have been to a couple of them recently in my travels and at least, consistently, now, I find the service to be reasonable, the menu choice wide and the food freshly cooked! You could certainly do a lot worse by risking a dodgy pub! As for price, well this is the U.K. mate don’t forget! Actually I find they don’t go ‘out of their way’ to rip you off (unlike a lot of ‘burger chains’ and the genuine motorway pit stops).
Recommended once again. Oh and bosses if you’re reading this, don’t mess with tradition again!
