I remember as a child whenever there was a family trip we would factor in a stop in the Little chef along our journey We used to travel frequently from Bristol to North Wales and a stop in the Little Chef was a welcome break from the boredom of driving. The little Chef was usually found on motorways service stations or strategic roundabouts ...  Read the complete review

Little Chef used to be a British institution and the place which you always looked forward to seeing at the side of the motorway on your long journeys as it offered you an excellent chance for a stop and refreshing drink as well as a good meal to fill you up but unfortunately recent times have seen it in a massive decline. I used a ...  Read the complete review

It's very rare I eat in Little Chef as I find the prices to be extraordinarily high for such a basic restaurant chain, considering the meals aren't even anything special I do baulk somewhat at paying restaurant prices for café food. However, a couple of weeks ago my sister received some complimentary vouchers for Little Chef so after shopping we ...  Read the complete review

Prior to last weekend I hadn't eaten in a Little Chef since I was a child but twice in the last week I've found myself staying in a Travel Lodge where the only eating place in walking distance was a Little Chef and so I was a captive audience first at the restaurant at Cambridge Fourwentways and then at the restaurant which is part of the Oxford ...  Read the complete review

Having stayed at the Travelodge in Adlington Cheshire the Little Chef is next door. So my husband and I decided to have a full cooked breakfast before our departure. We walked across the car park and entered the Little Chef at which point a waitress ushered us to our seats. She handed us some menus and immediately took our drinks order. I never like going to little chef but many times when we stay in Travelodge, they seem to be the adjacent restaurant and we land up eating there. Their food doesn't taste good for the price we pay. Their breakfast is the one I usually have as I try and avoid eating their lunch or dinner as much as possible. I had recently been to the little chef ...  Read the complete review

I am not a fan of Little Chef restaurants due to a couple of bad experiences which I will tell you about here. The first was when visiting Little Chef at Doncaster when myself and my partner were staying overnight at the adjacent Travelodge. We were hungry and thought we'd give the Little Chef a try. It was early evening when we ...  Read the complete review

Following the Channel 4 documentary, you're all itching to know what eating at Little Chef, Popham, in the wake of Heston is really like. And I'm about to tell you. The recent Channel 4 show, Big Chef Vs Little Chef, bought in one of Britain's top chefs; Heston Blumenthal. His mission was to revamp the sticky, tired, motorway ...  Read the complete review

I can remember going many times when I was a kid and being excited because at that time, Little Chef, Wimpy and Happy Eater were the three top fast food joints in my area, thinking back they were nice places to eat because they were simple child friendly meals. I went to one last year as I had to eat something and didn't fancy a ...  Read the complete review

Little Chef was good back in its day. But its gone seriously downhill these days. Over the past 2 nights I've been watching a programme on Channel 4. Its called "Big Chef Takes On Little Chef". Its about Heston Blumenthal, a top notch chef as he tries to salvage Little Chef. I liked the menu at LC but to be honest I've not ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Little Chef

Having stopped on our way to Devon on 24 October at the Little Chef at Barton Stacey on the A303, we had the most appalling experience of lack of service and competence that I have ever experienced at a chain restaurant.

We waited 20 minutes for our order to be taken, and then a further 30 minutes to inform us one of our items, the fish pie, was still frozen. This was all I could eat, having recently had 5 teeth extracted. At this point we left, and went to the Little Chef at Amesbury, which was, as previously experienced, excellent, in terms of both service and quality.

My advice is, don't eat at Barton Stacey. We eventually got to our destination at 11.00 p.m.

Having spent the last couple of months travelling from the West Midlands to Cardiff on a regular basis, I would like to comment on the cleanliness (or lack of it!) of the Little Chef at Monmouth. The service has been rather haphazard, but the toilets, both male and female, have been filthy! Last week the smell from the men's toilet was very ...  Read the complete review

Little Chef's are overpriced and overrated. I ordered a Cherry Pancake at one of their places on the A74 and was just about to tuck into a tasty spoonfull of cherry when I discovered it was a nut and bolt! They didn't even apologise, just brought me another which I declined, and needless to say I left.
I did some searching on my laptop and found a web site called laybycafe.com which gave me lots of information and helped me to find just what I was looking for only a couple of miles down the road. If you travel around, the site is well worth a look
No more Little Rip-offs for me!

Having travelled from Canterbury to Colchester Zoo with my daughter and two toddler grandchildren, we decided to book a night at the Colchester Feering Travelodge on the A12. The only option for a meal was the Little Chef. What a mistake! We would have been better travelling back to Kent on the same day!!
We went into the Little Chef at approx. 5.00 p.m. and although there were only three other tables occupied, we waited 40 mins. with two restless children, before the food was served. This consisted of Scampi & Chips: OVERCOOKED; Peas: VIRTUALLY RAW; Cheesey Chips: OVERCOOKED/CONGEALED CHEESE; Fish Pie: UNDERCOOKED.
The only decent items were a Rustic Bread Roll, together with an Orange Juice and three Colas - which in my opinion were vastly overpriced.
Would we ever go to a Little Chef again?
Absolutely not!!!

(By the way, Colchester Zoo was brilliant!)

Recently while driving down to Devon we found ourselves on a relatively minor road whci meant the chances of finding somewhere to stop to eat were rather sim so we stopped at the first place we came to which was a Little Chef. The Little Chef chain has been owned by Granada for some time. Granada are currently in the process of renaming all their Granada services into MOTO presumably to fool us that awful old Granada services have gone and the new ones are better. i have worked for little chef for 6 years and last year i felt the company were treating all there old staff like dirt. i feel like they need to go b4 they do go in deep water. i tried to apply again but they keep turning me down. i started as a f/t member to a team leader and there were no thanks in it. The customers complain about the service maybe they shouldn't off forced the decent people to leave and get students in as most are like creches now a days.

I seem to recall that at one time the UK was inundated with Little Chef restaurants. Maybe that's just my memory playing tricks on me, as it's now nigh on 30 years since I actually lived in the UK. But certainly they seemed to be located on lots of motorway service stations. When I lived and worked in the Home Counties of England in the ...  Read the complete review
