I don't really eat in the restaurant here so this review is more focused on their takeaway from which I do get take out.
I work near Raigmore Hospital so there isn't much choice for lunch around here unless we want to go to Tesco or visit a restaurant. I love fresh sanwiches though and this is where Lorimers come in!
Situated in the Longman area, and located across from the College, means going here avoids the notorious traffic in town!
There isn't a lot of parking here but I have never had trouble getting a space here as a lot of the visitors work in the surrounding area.
Me and my friend from work visit here most Fridays as a little treat! We always given a small pile of orders from the office.
Lorimer's offers sandwiches on thick white and brown bread, baguettes or croissants. If you fancy something a bit healthier you can also choose a slalad. I love their baguettes but their bread is always soft and fresh tasting too!
The board beside the counter displays the price of all the sandwiches and the huge variety of fillings on offer. The selection includes the regulars like cheese, ham, chicken and tuna but you can also get coronation chicken which I highly recommend. It doesn't contain sultanas either - my pet hate!
You get the usual salad section although I have never found the lettuce to be the most fresh looking so I tend to steer clear of this.
The sandwiches are priced at around £2.50 which I think is perfectly reasonable for a fresh sandwich. The portions are rather generous and I have never had a bad experience here!
You can also order the usual soft drinks and there is always a small selection of home baked cakes by the till - always very tempting!!
The staff here are always relatively polite, although you do get the feeling they're not exactly overly fond of their jobs!
I have never eaten in the main restuarant but I have had a look at the menu which includes the sandwiches, baked potatoes, fish and chips and macaroni amongst a selection of other foods.
I thoroughly recommend this takeaway/restaurant for anyone looking for a bit to eat in Inverness.
I love Fish n Chips but since having moved up from England, I find that the quality in Inverness can be really poor. I have tried every fish and chips shop with little or no satisfaction.
Lorimers is a nice little restaurant situated opposite Inverness College just off the A9. It has two sections, a takeaway and restaurant section. The takeaway offers fish and chips but also sandwiches, cakes, crisps and other savoury snacks. The restaurant is small and can spill over into the take away section when it gets busy.
I have been in both sections at lunchtime and dinnertime. At both intervals the food has been of good quality. I must admit I have never had a bad experience with Lorimers as their food is really good. All the food is fresh and cooked to a high standard.
I do find however that the staff can have a bad attitude most of the time. I get the impression they do not enjoy their jobs. On one particular occasion I have had my take away thrown at me. The service is good though. All food comes out quite quickly.
Overall a great place to eat. The best Fish and Chips in Inverness.
Its hard to find really good fish and chips in the Highland capital, Inverness, But these are really good at Lorimers Restaurant on the Longman Industrial estate as you come into Inverness from the A9 from the East. (Opposite Inverness College) There is a takeaway service or restaurant service with a good variety of food as well as fish and chips, the prices are very reasonable, Haddock and chips with peas, Mushy or ordinary = £4.25. There are pasta dishes, Salads, Filled Baguettes Etc. There is normally a daily special on the notice board. The takeaway service has fish and chips and usual chip shop fare and a variety of Fresh rolls filled with your choice of a wide variety of fillings. You rarely have to wait to be served and the staff are friendly and happy. It is popular with local people and students. The restaurant is airy and has plenty of room and is situated in a conservatory type room with views across the Dual carraigeway towards Inverness College, The toilets are spotlessly clean and obviously checked on a regular basis. There is plenty of parking spaces.
