Maharani Indian Restaurant (Machynlleth)
We have a family home near to Machynlleth and have done for years and years. The Maharani Indian Restaurant opened around ten years ago and we have been quite a few times as it is nice, has good food, is reasonably priced and is in a nice location. In my opinion Machynlleth needed a lovely restaurant like this and every time we go, we always say that we will return again which is a great thing. Plus I know loads of people who have been several times and every time have enjoyed it so now I will tell you why you ought to go and try it out if you are ever in the area.
First the address;
Maharani Indian Restaurant
21 Penrallt Street
The location of the restaurant is superb as it is right in the centre of Machynlleth which is a beautiful little town in Mid Wales. Machynlleth is a market town so every Wednesday there is a charming market and it also houses some lovely art and jewellery shops but also has book, sports, kitchen, toy, souvenir shops around. Within Wales Machynlleth is a centre to loads of places such as Aberdyfi which has a great beach and Aberystwyth which I'm sure most people have heard about.
The restaurant is a short walk from a few car parks in the centre of town and is easy to find as it is quite big. There is parking by the restaurant but it is probably easier to go to one of the bigger car parks and walk down.
From the outside the Maharani looks very nice. The buildings all around are not necessarily modern so it looks very cosy with a sweet looking building, huge curtains by the windows and nice lights inside. The Maharani is in big letters outside so you should be able to find it easily.
When you walk inside you will see a nice looking reception area in front of you. There is almost always a member of staff here to help you out. At this point you could always get a take away but if it were up to me I would eat in the restaurant.
Now the main restaurant is lovely with a huge chandelier on the ceiling and nice lighting everywhere. The tables and chairs are all comfortable as they have fabric on them and there are quite a few of them as the place is quite big. At the back you can see the kitchens when the doors open but you do feel very cosy and settled in there the minute you step in. the carpets are a deep red colour which makes you feel good as it is a nice colour and I think the main thing is that you feel good to be in here and it always has a good bustling atmosphere.
Ok so they do have quite a well stocked bar so drinks are no problem at all and they have always had everything that we have wanted which is good. The prices are not too bad at about £3.50 for a glass of wine and a couple of pounds for a soft drink. They do put the choices on a menu so you can have a look there when they come to your table to take all of your orders.
Now the staff are very friendly and they do have quite a big menu so if you need help on what anything tastes like then just ask and they will help you out always. The food is gorgeous and they have a massive selection which includes a lot of vegetarian food which is god for me as I prefer it most of the time.
They have all of the normal selections such as onion bhajis to start at about £3.50 each and then things such as Korma, Bhuna, Biryani for your mains which are all around £5 - 6 each. Then you have your naan breads, rices which are priced at about £2 each. Then for puddings you can get ice-cream mainly which is around £3 each.
When the food comes they give you very generous portions so make sure you are hungry. The food is cooked to perfection and they always take care over it. It has always been brought out at the same time for our family which is always good and it is always piping hot and delicious.
Now when you are leaving you can ask them for the bill and they will always bring you some after dinner mints or chocolate which is nice. You can take a menu on your way out so you can get a take out because you will be so full with food but have enjoyed it so much that you will want to go there again.
You will have a nice meal here with authentic Indian food which is truly cooked to perfection. We love it here and think it is a great restaurant so I will recommend it to everybody who goes to this area.
Thanks for reading.
