Advantages: usually accessible, predictable food,OK price

Disadvantages: not the healthiest food on offer

I'll make a confession to you all right here & now - when I was pregnant with my eldest daughter (now 22) I ate ate to 5 Big Macs a day - I'm surprised I didn't give birth to a baby complete with salad, burger bun & mayo!

In the 1980's though there weren't the health warnings about overeating, eating only freshly-washed salad & avoiding raw eggs (in mayo) etc so I didn't feel bad as I had plenty of 'proper' protein, vegetables & fresh fruit.

Luckily, 22 years on, my daughter has always been fit & healthy & doesn't have an addiction to McDonalds!

I haven't been there for a sit-down meal or takeaway for ages now - not that I've been avoiding the place - just haven't been tempted. But having read the (mixed) reviews I'm feeling the urge for a burger (or 2?).

I won't go into into the ins & outs of McDonalds as everyone knows that their restaurants & drive-ins are like & what food is on offer. There must be a McD's in almost every city of the world - even Tehran!

The down -side
~
- not healthy as we know - too much fat & salt makes the food high in calories. I know they've tried to do something about this but you can't deny their food isn't recommended by nutritionists as a regular meal option.

- too tempting for youngsters who can become 'fast food faddies'.
The toys given out with Happy Meals can encourage consumerism in a big way & can be expensive for those parents who don't like to say 'no' to their kids & their friends.

- very commercial.

- I understand the staff are poorly paid.

the up-side
~

- usually easily accessible, bright & cheerful & usually pretty quick service (but obviously this depends on the time of day, staffing levels etc).

- the food is predictable & usually reliable.

- well packed & prices are OK compared to other fast food chains.

- popular with most ages as the menu os reasonably varied.

- usually open for breakfasts 'til late so good for shift workers etc.

summary
~
- I find the food too salty - always want gallons of water after eating.

- fries are too skinny & too greasy for my liking.

- something for most tastes? - burgers, chicken nuggets, breakfasts, hot drinks (hate the coffee!), variety of cold drinks & ice-creams.

- usually fairly accessible, predictable food, service variable.

- good for a treat but not for everyday eating in my opinion.

- As I'm writing this my urge for a Big Mac is getting stronger by the minute....

Summary: probably the most famous hot-food place in the world?

staff are poorly paid- but not as poorly paid as in River Island where overtime goes as unpaid and fully expected!
Staff are not well off but do have opportunities to better themselves which many jobs simply do not offer, so I do not believe they are too hard done by!

Think they are trying to portray a healthier image these days but it doesn't really wash with me -- however I do yearn for a big mac occasionly - why did you have to remind me? There's one just five minutes walk away from me! BYe! :0)
