Tasty food, shame about the service (McDonald's)

Advantages: Cheap, tasty, quick

I enjoy McDonalds food (when it isn't cold, or not what I ordered), but find that the service is really starting to let McDonald's down in the UK. In New York the staff are friendly, cheerful, and pleasant to deal with. Admittedly, they were a bit over the top, and it was plain that they were forced to be like that (sign on the wall: "Didn't get service with a smile? Get your money back!"). However, it made a welcome change from the grumpy teenagers who don't listen to your order, moodily ask "eat in?", look at you as if you've caused the problem when they serve up the wrong meal...

And don't get me started on the drive throughs. I have never had my order completely correct, when using the drive through at Strood. There is normally something missing, occasionally something extra, and I have long ago learned not to drive off, no matter how much they prompt you to do so, until the order has been thoroughly checked. The Strood drive through has recently been revamped. Where a order window once stood, there is now a machine, which uses an intercom system for you to talk to the person who will take your card at the next window. Apart from not seeing the point of this machine at all, the staff can barely understand a word said through it. With a friend last week, she asked three times for large chips, and each time the response came through the intercom "A big mac meal, you say?". grr!

Apologies to any McDonalds employees who are not rude to customers, and do listen to orders made - I'm sure most people who work there are hard working and polite, I just seem to remember all the bad experiences!
