Advantages: Great food, great prices, well known franchise.
Disadvantages: Fast food isn't so healthy, though there are healthy options on the menu.
McDonald's is the world's largest fast food restaurant chain, with more than 31,000 locations across the globe, the franchise is a huge phenomenon. Something quite remarkable is the claim that they are serving 47 million customers each day throughout their restaurants; I probably wouldn't question it due to the popularity of this brand.
Why is this brand so huge? Founded in 1940, McDonald's rapidly expanded across the globe; first in the United States in California, then across land to Illinois, and eventually spreading to Asia, Europe and Australia. McDonald's has grown to this size because of a very effective business model. Initially set up as a speedy fast food diner, the brand gained a great reputation. This reputation lead to the franchising of the business which is why you can't go anywhere without seeing that large yellow M.
McDonald's specialised in fast food, and still continues to today, almost 70 years after the business was founded. Burgers, Fries, Shakes, Sandwiches and Desserts are just a few of the wide variety of food available across the restaurant chain. McDonald's is well known for it's Big Mac; a large beef burger, compromised of two slices of beef, sandwiched between three bun's finished off with lettuce, mayo and a couple of slices of gherkin; the original American touch. The McChicken Sandwich, is the main, 100% chicken burger found on the menu's; a good sized chicken fillet, finished off with lettuce and mayo in a seeded bun. But these aren't the only food products to be re-branded with the McDonald's name; the McFlurry ice cream; McMuffin breakfast sandwich; McRib; McNuggets and McGriddles... all great tasting food from a world renowned restaurant.
McDonald's hasn't always had it easy; questions of the quality of it's meat, more specifically beef, and what was actually in burgers created unwanted media coverage that lead to investigations and quality checks. Since these events, McDonald's has striven to source it's ingredients from local farmers; shown widely through the used of TV advertising.
McDonald's is one of those family known brands, the children love it, and the parent's love to hate it. Many times, have I as a child, persuaded my parents to go to McDonald's and it seems through McDonald's clever promotions they always get family's through the door. The famous children's Happy Meal is something every child has tried at some time or another.
As now an adult, I do still find myself eating the restaurants. Personally McDonald's offers the best food when comparing it to other fast food restaurant chains. In comparison, I tend to dislike KFC chips, but love the thin crispy chips found in McDonald's, and Burger Kings drinks are always very watered down, compared to McDonald's well flavoured alternatives.
The prices for a meal range from £2 for children's and £4 for adults, though this depends entirely on when in the country and world you go; with McDonald's being a franchise, restaurants can adapt prices to suit the locality of customers. Breakfast meals are usually served before 11am, and are tasty before a hard days work.
I don't think I'll ever stop buying food from McDonald's, yes fast food isn't great for you, but I like to think that everything is good in moderation. McDonald's is doing well to introduce healthy products; Caesar Salads and Deli Sandwiches which is a change from the typical burger. This variety keeps me coming back as I like to try out the new products.
And finally just to top it all off, that well known dingle, Da Da Da Da Da I'm Lovin' It!
Summary: A world renowned business that serves fast food dishes across the globe.
