I used to work for McDonalds when i was 17 and worked there for nearly 2 years. I know McDonalds gets a lot of stick for being the easiest place to get a job, but really, it isnt. My interview was quite hard and i know of a lot of people who havent been hired but then i have also known some pretty stupid people who have have must have blagged their way through the interview.
Over the past couple of years McDonlads have re vamped their menus in order to appeal to the healthier eating people. As well as their normal grease filled burgers like Big Macs and Quarter Pounders, they now also sell salads and deli sandwiches. There are still lots of calories to be had in these new items if you have all the dressings on them. The dressings alone for the salads hold an enormous amount of calories.
One of the great things about McDonalds is that it isnt expensive. Their poundsaver menu has proved really popular, especially with students but i was sad to see the Double Cheeseburger go up in price. The biggest problem with the food is that it doesnt keep you full for very long. I normally end up feeling hungry again within the hour unless i totally pig out.
One of the good and bad things about working there was that you get free food on your breaks. Its good because it means you dont have to pay for food all the time, especially when you work long hours like i used to. Sometimes i found myself working from 4pm till 2 or 3am. The bad side to this is that before salads and sandwiches were introduced, the only things to eat were really fatty and bad for you.
As i said, ive worked for McDonalds before so there are kind of mixed reviews about the service. I would like to think i was always pretty nice when serving customers but ive been in a lot of McDonalds where the service isnt so good. I know it gets super busy and the queues are never ending over lunch and dinner and i guess that gets to a lot of people. The job really is stressful but at the end of the day its just a job so i didnt feel the need to get stressed out.
McDonalds are really good for letting their staff progress to management. A lot of people i knew while working there had many promotions, including myself. The higher management notice when they have smart people on their team and want to reward them for it. The pay at McDonalds was also really good compared to other jobs id had and was over the minimum wage.
I know this isnt the typical review of McDonalds but i thought id put it out there to show its really not a bad place to work. Don't dismiss it until you have tried.
Summary: Dont dismiss it as a place to work
