Advantages: Fast Service (Faster in the States). Reasonable Prices. Relaxed Informal Atmosphere.

Disadvantages: Can get very busy. Some of the burgers aren't very tasty.

McDonald's is the largest chain of Hamburger Restaurants in the world according to Wikipedia. McDonald's restaurants are operated as a Franchise, an affiliate, or the corporation itself.

The business was originally started by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald. Imagine if the "Big Mac" was named after Dick. The first restaurant was opened in the 1940's in San Bernardino, California. In 1948 they came up with their "Speedee Service System" which brought about the ideals of the modern fast food restaurant. McDonald's first go at a Mascot was called "Speedee" & was a man with a chef's hat on top of a hamburger shaped head (slightly resembling their modern character "Hamburlgar"). In 1963 Ronald McDonald replaced Speedee.

You can eat at McDonald's in over 119 countries, in one of their 31,000 plus restaurants. McDonald's is most famous for it's Hamburgers & Cheeseburgers. It does however sell other items like Chicken Nuggets, Apple Pies & Breckfast Platters. Also, the Menu varies from country to country. One example being in France you can by a toasted Ham & Cheese Sandwhich known in France as a Croque Monsiuer but given a "Mc" phrased name in stores. Another example would be the Double Quarter Pounder permenently available in America, which is only release in small periods as a limited edition in Britain.

I like eating in Mcdonald's. It is a great place where you can eat a down to earth meal, pay a reasonable price & be served quickly (although anyone who has used an American one will know they are faster there than in Britain) The food is nice. It isn't always brilliant. Some of the burgers are tastier than others, but there is something for everyone. If you've never eaten in one, then I think you should give one a go.

Summary: A popular Worldwide food chain that is a good place to eat.
