Disadvantages: Most of the food.

McDonalds... the world's most popular fast food chain. Who in the civilised world will not recognise those famous yellow arches on the red background?? Apparently it's the world's biggest food supplier going, but correct me if i'm wrong.

Nowadays I tend to only go to McDonald's when there's no alternative nearby (i.e. there's no raw sewage outlet/stinking bins to feast from). No i'm only joking, but i'll only go there if KFC or Burger King isn't about, or early in the morning for one of the breakfasts (see further on). I used to be one of those kids who would love going to McDonalds. Of course these were in the days when there was nothing else nearby. Picture me munchin on my chicken nugget happy meal, with my toy, happy as larry.

The staff are usually well trained i find, and it is probably the quickest fast food restaurant. The staff are always on hand to clean tables and floors, and usually seem to know what they are doing. They are run as franchises as far as i know, so obviously the managers want the staff to do their best.

The thing with McDonald's, I think, is that it's just convenient. There must be at least one in every town now, and you always know what your going to get- its so consistent, even if its nothing special. It's just a safe bet. I think everyone must have a set meal that the always get when they go to McDonalds.

Anyway the food... It's nothing special is it. I'll go through some of the products they sell...

THE BIG MAC
The most wholesome and filling McDonald's product. Remember when you were a kid and they were really daunting? or was that just me? I finally had one when i was about 11 and wasn't too dissapointed. That 'Big mac sauce' isn't too bad- nice and tasty. The lettuce is always crisp and the cheese is a good touch. As for the burgers, they are not exactly succulent tender pieces of beef, more like a flat, squ
ashed, 'beef pattie' as they call it. What it lacks in substance, it also lacks in taste, lol. The meat is very plain tasting. At least the buns are always fresh.

McCHICKEN SANDWICH
Either you're a McChicken Sandwich person or your not. I have to admit that i was for a long period of time, but compared to a KFC fillet burger, this is muck. Its processed chicken (Deep fried, i think, urgh) with the taste taken away by decent crispy batter and tangy mayonnaise.

HAMBURGER/CHEESEBURGER
As far as i can remember, these products are quite cheap, compared to competitors anyway. There was a time when they were 59p and 69p respectively, but i think they must be near a quid now. Well anyway, it's only right that they are cheap, because they are not that good. As with the Big mac, the meat is very plain tasting, they put some crunchy stuff in these which is ok. The sauce is sometimes too tangy but the gherkins are ok if you like that sort of thing. As far as burgers go, they are not awful-tasting or anything, they are just McDonalds. I mean could you ever make a burger at home that tasted exactly the same. The quarter pounder, i think, is just a bigger piece of meat. I've never actually had one so i can't comment.

CHICKEN NUGGETS
Despite being processed meat (or are they? i cant quite remember), these actually have a nice unique taste, probably due to the crispy golden stuff they are coated in. They do get a bit boring after about 16 though, and should not constitute a healthy meal.

FRENCH FRIES
Urgh. Actually these are the only inconsistent product they do. Sometimes they will be glazed with salt, sometimes plain as cardboard, sometimes crispy, sometimes flimsy and soggy and a real displeasure to eat.

BREAKFASTS
The McDonalds breakfasts look awful. There's no disputing that. They look like some kids food set where the food is made out of ridgid plastic and you can bounce it off walls.
The thing is, i don't think they are that bad. You get a flat piece of sausage meat which just looks like a burger but is actually much tastier. You get scrambled egg, which has a plastic texture but is suprisingly eatable, or a different sort of poached egg thing if you get the muffin thing. These are allright too. The thing is i've only ever had these for breakfast, a time when im really hungry- its not like these all day breakfasts that other places do. They only serve until 10.30am, so i wonder if i would still find it appealing at tea-time. hmmm. Oh yeah, you get a deep fried hash brown too. Not that great, but adds to an otherwise bare minimal 'Big' Breakfast.

DRINKS
Obviously, as everyone knows, the milkshakes are great. Thick as concrete, and you'll probably burst some blood vessels trying to suck it through to straw, but when it gets to the top, very tasty, especially chocolate. The soft drinks are as good as they could be, and the tea and coffee are actually allright.

OTHERS
Those Ice Cream sundaes are great! Also i have found that when McDonald's do limited edition burgers and others, they tend to be better than the original stuff, and i'm often saddened to see them taken off the menu. McDonalds is usually the best restaurant for special offers and giveaways. I've won many a free fries or burger or drinks on various competitions, which you can't complain about.

So there you go. McDonalds.

excellent op, I really enjoy Burger King and think McD's are not even in teh same league - real meat is always the best bet in a burger and Burger Kings Bacon Burger Double Whopper thingy is deeeelicious (my mouth is watering now) :)
